I saw one driving around town (no clue what Gen but probably II) and thought to myself that it had to be repainted. Did a Google search and came up with nothing. Was just reading through some threads and see that a member (FredWB) has a burgundy Prius as his avatar! Sooooo...did one exist?
You didn't search long and hard enough: heck - it's even been posed here on PC a bunch of times! Notice the difference between it, and the salsa colored Prius. Yea ... burgundy ... maroon ... It's one of my favorites. They did this color to the Lexus RX SUV too (calling it wine mica) .... but Lexus didn't use the burgundy color on their SUV hybrid version ... so we had to settle for gold.
If they ask me what I will miss the most when I take delivery of my PIP; salsa red will be my answer!
Yeah I love Salsa Red. It was one of my choices for the 2005 Prius before we settled on Tideland Pearl. Toyota also offered a grey w/ burgundy interior (where the seats and lower door panels were light grey but the upper dash and door cappings were burgundy). It's a nice interior and found in any 2004-2005 Prius w/ a grey interior (e.g. Silver, White). Others like Tideland Pearl and Salsa Red had a beige/black interior.
I too wish there was a Salsa Red not the Barcelona Red on the PIP. But sadly neither is offered. I wonder if it would take too long to use the remote heater on a darker car, so they nixed Red and Black on the PIP (Plug In Prius)?
I believe there was a Ron Burgundy Prius. It was kind of a big deal. It had leather interior and smelled of rich mahogany.
When i saw my first (and only) Salsa Red Prius on the road, i too thought it was a custom respray, until i saw it on the internet and on used car websites. It's a very nice colour though.
salsa red looks better on a larger car like an Avalon or 4Runner, on a smaller car like Matrix or Prius toyota definitely made the right choice of the brigher barca red

Okay, mystery solved! My research started with the 2006 Prius which is why I never saw that Salsa was an '05 color. Thank you!

Not really. Burgundy is available for the Honda Fit, since it represent Germans. Prius is the full scope of modern physics, a favorite among Einsteins. I think it was made for 'em. That is why they said it for smart people. You need to be beyond classic mechanics to drive a Prius.
