Today I saw an article:confused: on Fox News Ch. for a new Prius that claims to get 84 MPG and is being sold in Japan only @ this time. The price was quoted @ $22,000. I don't have any other info, but if that's true my 2006 may get sold when it arrives in the US. They also said the Volt is in deep trouble as is the Nissan Leaf. Is it possible that Toyota found out something that nobody else has on MPG? Let me know if you know more on this. Thanks.

Sounds like a bizarre way of measuring that a car is in trouble. Does that mean all cars above $28K and $40k are "in trouble"?

'11 Leaf in CA was pretty cheap. Per 2012 Nissan Leaf gets higher price tag, more standard equipment, SV was $32,780 + $820 dest charge. But, you could get a $7500 Federal tax credit and a $5000 CA rebate (now only $2500), bringing the cost down to $~21K, not including tax.

Who knows? This was just a quick segment by Fox news people reading a teleprompter. No Prius experts for sure.

This would be why you're confused...... ;)

That figure is based on a Japanese mileage program that produces much higher figures than the EPA. For example, a standard Prius nets around 76mpg on that test loop.
