I've had aftermarket HID's in my IS since 2009.. no issues. If you buy some cheap kit you may be risking that, but if you get something from a reputable source I don't think you will have that issue.

What do you think of the kits from DDM tuning?

You get what you pay for. The ballasts themselves I think are fine, but the bulbs are crap. They don't fit cause the tabs on the bulb are way too big. You'll have to trim them down or really use a lot of torque to fit them. My new kit came with Philips bulbs and they popped right in with no problems.

Thanks! could you please provide info on where and what part number etc.. you ordered?

Also, was there any mounting involved, or did you just tie-strap everything? Just want to know what I'm up against.

I got ddm and I didn't have to trim anything down.. fitted right in, so far so good going into 6 months now.. Well worth it for $35 IMO..

Same here with my DDM kit.

If you want better quality, albeit a bit more pricey, go to TRS. I ordered a pair of HID bulbs from them during the week, so I can do a comparison to see if they're any better than the DDM in terms of light output.

Another option for folks, is possibly getting an H9 bulb, which will require some trimming or work to get them to fit. I have a pair here, and am going to evaluate what it requires, etc. and document it in another thread on here.

I'm starting to wonder if the kit they sent me was a H9 bulb and not an H11. I remember seeing on the box it saying H8/H9/H11. If that's the case, poor service on DDM's part. But it's someone else's problem now.

If you want to spend a little more for quality HID kit, I'd recommend Volt HID kit for around $100.

Installing HID kit on a non-projector housing is probably one of the worst thing you can do to other drivers on the road.

I've had DDM on my subaru, Xtreme xenon HID, and the Volts kit. Only the Xtreme Xenon HID did not fail on me except for one bulb going after 3 years. Volts and DDM I had problems with ballast. No experience with TRS but their stuff looks really high quality as well...

IMO, KBCarstuff and The Retrofit Source sell some of the highest quality kits on the market.

I was going to go to DDM to buy a kit for now just to see if i want the 4300 or maybe the 6000k. I want it superwhite, with no hint of blue or yellow. But reading the reviews on Yelp, I decided to go with Xenonsupply.. Although, DDM being local sounded nice incase of return or exchange, but it seems like they have bad customer service..:(

Then you want a 5000k bulb.

I just got back from DDM and bought the H11 5000K KIT with slim ballast. I will try these first then maybe eventually switch to a premium brand.

I think I will be doing the same for my 2011. Let me know how it goes! I really want to do HID, but worried about blinding people too.

I installed it last night. It looks really nice, so far worth the $43.

I purchased the DDM 4500k kit in 35w and it was a bit on the blue side. Many people that get the 5000k DDM kit say it's too blue also. Just a FYI.

    I think you meant 4300k. :)

I found the 4300k, 5000k, and 6000k bulbs to look so alike that I think they were the same bulbs with different packaging. :(

That being said, I just had a Morimoto bulb break the ground strap. Thankfully they come with like a 5yr warranty. lol

I dont think its blue at all. I did not want the 4300 cause its yellowish. I chose the 5000k for the brightest white.

I read somewhere that DDM Tuning bulbs between the 4300-5000k are 4700k bulbs.. same bulbs just advertised differently. I also remember when getting the package of H11 bulbs, the box said h8/h9/h11....
