Second week of driving my Blue '08 and loving it. Still playing the MPG game...up to 44mpg so far (cruise control helps a lot, I feel). Overall, a great buy.
:welcome: and congrats. If you haven't already, you might want to reset the MFD average mpg reading. Just press the reset button next time you fill up. That average mpg is lifetime which will include the dealer just driving up and down the lot, and warming it up with 0 miles and things like that. I would recommend driving the car like any other car to get the hang of what the car likes to do, then improve. Don't use EV mode, don't try to drive in electric only. Brake slowly to use regen.

Wow, what a warm welcome Thanks, guys. Appreciate the references to the lads, too...hehe. I have reset it a bunch of times. I fill in premium gasoline, even though i hear you don't have to. Also, as per advice I found here, I didn't wanna wait for the fuel signal to go off, so i filled it up (for $32!) when i had 1/10th of the tank remaining (that last little light). Hit a new high, too = 46.2 MPG! All in all, my car (still gotta come up with a creative name for it...Blue Meanie isn't all that positive) is transforming me into a much better driver (at least more civilized than the flamboyant V8 I drove previously). All GenII's do have EV mode. However, the USDM vehicles do not have a switch to activate it. A 50 cent piece of hardware that grounds a pin on the HV ECU will make it active. Or you can buy the actual switch that comes preinstalled for about $100 online. Prii have quite the pick-up and go. You don't have to be afraid to punch it. With having all that torque available at 0rpm and 0mph it is insane for a 100hp economy car. Also, don't use premium. Yes it feels good, but it is actually designed for low octane 85 or 87 depending on your region/altitude. I put 85 (not E85, just 85) in but I am between 6000 and 10000ft routinely.
welcome to priuschat. i keep averaging similar numbers as you. this traffic makes it hard to cruise properly (good for the car and for traffic). i tend to average higher when i'm pulling my trailer. my highest mpg is 52mpg but that was when i lived in the san francisco bay area. (i also need maintenance done)
Thanks, I will switch to 87 octane! In other news, I ordered a shorter antenna and a louder PIAA horn...Can't think of any other mods that are cheap/necessary...
