My latest tankfull and my overall FE screenshots are attached. The last tankfull showed 25.1 km/l (942km for 37.5litres) or US59mpg, overall for an average of US55mpg.after 8285km.
I'm consistently getting MPG of 52 on my daily commute to and back from work. The distance each way is around 5 miles, with about 50% mostly smooth traffic occasionally interrupted by speed bumps and traffic lights. The remaining 50% is mostly bumper to bumper traffic all the way. Road condition mostly flat with some moderate inclines. We have tropical weather all year round. I keep my tire pressure between the recommended psi and the maximum on the sidewalk. I have tried some hypermiling but that is mostly possible only on the first half of the journey without heavy traffic but not getting any better result. Is that normal?
I just bought a 2011 Prius 3 and with 400 miles on the clock I haven't got more than 45 MPG and I live in Southern California. The dealer is trying its best to convince me thats normal. Do i have a lemon? Also Cruise Control malfunctions - speed won't SET after a few miles of regular freeway driving.
The EPA rating is not a guarantee for mpg. It is an estimate only. Different commutes and driving styles can drastically alter your actual mpg. Some get low 40s and some get high 60s. 45mpg-55mpg is a very common range for this car. You are also only experiencing winter mileage conditions which include winter fuel blend which reduces mpg compared to the summer blend. Especially the part about your cruise control issue. Driving in B Mode instead of D Mode will reduce mpg AND not allow you to use cruise control. http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-iii...-answer-these-questions-esp-if-youre-new.html
My 2010 Prius, 5000 mi., gets 37-38 mpg an short trips. Longer rides I 'll get 40. Do I have a hople in my gas tank?
Absolutely! That's how the gasoline gets into it. Define a "longer" trip. Types of roads driven, outside temperatures, speed driven, tire pressure, acceleration and braking rates, how close you follow other drivers, stop lights, etc. LOTS of variables. My car averages 25 - 35 mpg during the first 5 minutes or so. After that.....it is glorious.
My latest numbers reflect Winter conditions and how they affect all of us. I'm just keeping the faith that in the Spring things will get better. We had a recent warm up and my numbers increased accordingly. I never wanted Spring to get here as I do this year.
I got gas cubby to keep track of mileage on my iPhone. For the first 10,000 miles less the first 1/2 month before I got the app. I have gotten 47.3 mpg actual. However in the summer we live on a butte that is over 600 feet rise over the lake. It is a mile road with two switchbacks. We also have driven from AZ to WA and back at speeds up to over 80 mph when the speed limit is that high. It is 80 in UT, 75 in ID. and AZ. We pass trucks going up steep inclines with no problem. Plus it is regular gas, what is not to like. Great highway car except when it is really windy. But no car is perfect. But we love the Prius overall!
Plus guys and girls, According to this RITA | BTS | Table 1-11: Number of U.S. Aircraft, Vehicles, Vessels, and Other Conveyances there are approx. 42 million passenger cars and trucks in the US as of 2009. If 1 million Pri were sold in the US, Pri owners are getting better mileage than the other 97.5% if we get 45-55 mpg.
Damn, so close to two milestones. Just filled up tank and was 2 days shy of an entire month between fillups and was 12 miles shy of getting 450 miles out of tank... Not bad considering the cold weather we've been having.
You are either getting really poor mileage or you had several gallons left in the tank when you filled up.
I had averaged 49-52mpg until i did my 30,000 service....new engine and cabin filters.....now i'm getting in the low to mid 40's.....i bought filters at toyota dealer so they are oem.....
My result, for a bit over 2 years (late Nov 2009-mid Jan 2012), a hair less than 47.0 mpg: 905.1 gal; 42527 miles; 47.0 rounded up to the nearest tenth. As about 85% of what I do is highway, I will be happy if I reach 48 mpg one of these years. Travel range: Home base: Pickles Gap, AR (central Ark.) Easternmost point traveled: just E. of Indianapolis, IN Westernmost: Oregon Coast Northernmost: probably Sequim, WA Southernmost: Big Bend NP, TX
Hello All, Got my brand new 2011 Prius III two weeks ago, it now has 433miles and the fuel light is flashing. My driving has been mostly highway with about 20% city. Is this gas consumption OK for the first tank? Thanks.
I wouldn't worry too much unless things don't improve after 5,000 miles. Mine improved steadily over that initial break-in range, even as temperatures remained somewhat on the lower end (daily hi/lo average was 31º for my first 5k) -- my avg speed is 35-40 mpH per tank, and also about 20% city (or less). Other factors on first tank are whether anyone else drove it, before you took delivery, and if the tank was truly full -- it can be a full gallon down before the indicator moves one mark (depending on mpg). If your average speed is something over 40 on a regular basis (as reported on the dash/trip odo), and temperatures are on the lower side, you may have to wait until spring to start getting 45+mpg. Beyond temp & precipitation, acceleration and overall driving habits are big factors, and you'll find that if you're mindful of fuel performance and adjust for it, mpg should improve as a result in time. I suggest saving your gas receipts so you can calculate actual gallons over an extended mileage range to see how your performance truly is -- my HSI reports 5-7% over what the actual mpg is. I reset TripA at each tank fill, and TripB at roughly 5,000 miles, which works out to about 3 months for me, so I get a quarterly average as well. Good luck and enjoy
The fuel gauge is very conservative. It started flashing at me the other day at around 450 miles. I filled up about 20 miles later but could only put 9.8 gallons in, when a full tank is supposed to be 11.9.
2010 Prius II, 1st full tank 556.9 miles, consumption 53.1 mpg, avg speed 37mph. tires are at 40/40, no A/C (February), not much heat either as it's been warm(40's amd 50's). when i filled up the car took 11.3 gals. bottom fuel light had been blinking for 35 miles. I was waiting for it to disappear until i realized i was already on borrowed time. yikes. since that tank i have blocked the bottom (bumper) air dam. no blockage on the upper dam. hubcaps removed (as if that matters)
