Before my 2008 Prius, I had a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo that use more gas in a day
than the Prius used in a month.

I came from a 2009 WRX the gas mileage was killing me since I drive 50 miles a day, then I was rear ended with $11,000 damage so my wife gave me the okay to get the Prius. My commute still sucks but the gas mileage makes it a little better now. :D

2006 Bluestone Toyota Highlander Limited. We loved that vehicle. It definitely kept us safe as we travelled through New England, including Vermont during Hurricane Irene. We are comparing the costs and have worked out roughly 12 cents per kilometre for gas for the Highlander, and 6 cents per kilometre for our 2010 Prius. The Prius is about 46 miles per US gallon, so I guess the Highlander would have been about 23 mpg.

Hello jrtak, how was your adjustment period from the WRX to the Prius? I had an Outback XT and was getting 15mpg with Premium!

    Anyhow, nice new ride!

Current car is a 2010 Prius II with 38k miles after 18 months.

Previous car was a 2002 Prius with 165k after 8 years. Battery pack died.

Car before that was a 1995 Honda Accord. Had to get rid of after 114k miles because of mobility problems (couldn't drive stick on the LA freeways anymore).

Hah, I remember my old Jeep. A 1990 carbureted with a lift kit and oversized tires...I don't remember the mileage, but it was nice to have 12" wide tires and 4x4 when it snowed.

2000 Toyota Tacoma 4x4 5-speed manual regular cab & topper. excellent little multi-purpose ute - boat dragger, kayak & canoe toter, backwoods hotel room, tail-gater, stump jumper, junk hauler, and commuter. sucky gas mileage, great A/C, and intermittent wipers! loved that beastie.

I am ditching my 2009 Infiniti FX35 for a 2011 Prius 5 two weeks ago. I wanted to get out of the FX so bad that I had transferred my lease to a 3rd party. In my case, I love my FX and will probably miss it when it is finally picked up. The 15mpg economy (I drive mostly on the streets) brought much pain and guilt when I fork over $100 for fill-ups. I thought to myself why I was driving something that costs me too much money and gets me less than 1/3 as far on a gallon than a good hybrid.

I finally pulled the trigger and I am so far happy with the trade-off. Instead of deriving joy from passing cars, I take joy in seeing the ECO light staying on when I drive. So far everyone in the family loves the Prius.

I am averaging "just" 42 mpg on my first 200 miles and will work on improving that.

On Friday, I left home with my 2004 Prius at 95,000 miles. Returned with my 2011 Prius that started at 2 miles... :)

The car before that was a 2002 Prius.

Latest victim. Sold my 2008 BMW 135i that I had for one year and 25,000 miles. 22.3mpg on 93 octane.

I miss the car dearly, but wont miss the frequent trips to the pump (I could only get 250-300 miles on a tank.) Once I have more space for a second car, I will gladly pickup another as a weekender.

Wife was cleared to drive again after totaling the Mazda5, so I took the battery tender of the Lexus and am afraid I've lost the Prius. Maybe I'll get to drive it once in a while.:(

Had to laugh at this - our second vehicle is a 2004 Wrangler Unlimited. You should also add: I can now hear the radio, and carry on a conversation with my hubby. Not to mention, have a phone conversation with someone using the bluetooth.

When we first got the Unlimited, I thought how much quieter it was from the 1998 Sport Wrangler we also had at the time. Then we replaced the Sport with a 2007 Honda Fit, and I thought that was pretty quiet. 270,000 miles later, when we found out the Fit needed a big repair, we looked at the Prius and discovered just how noisy the Fit was and how used I was to yelling when trying (sometimes unsuccessfully) to carry on a conversation. I used to look for excuses to drive the Jeep, because it's a fun vehicle to buy. But after driving the Prius for just under 3 months, I'm not looking forward to driving the Jeep to work tomorrow!

2003 Pt Cruiser with 100k miles. Live in a windy area and was only getting 20-22mpg. Traded it in on Monday and drove home in a 2011 Blue Prius III
