Can I cancel or modify my order?

Your order can be canceled at any time prior to your taking delivery of the vehicle. There is no obligation on your part. However, once the order is canceled, it cannot be reinstituted.

After an order is confirmed and submitted to the factory, it cannot be modified. If you wish to order a different color or different equipment, you will need to cancel your current order and place a new one. Be aware this will reset your place in line with the factory, and your estimated production time may be affected.

you are/were missing a step or two in the order process. Even if you do the "process" correctly, if your dealer is clueless it would be impossible to get the PIP through them (on pre-order) Either you would have to call them and educate them on the process or pick another dealer they knows what they are doing or finally,wait until 2103 and pick one up.You might be able to find one (with an inflated price) that the 'orderee' decide not to purchase on delivery.

And OP, if you log in, you should have a button to choose another dealer. The dealers in the PriusChat Certified Dealer Program will be clueful and will save you $500 under MSRP.

There is no reason not to place an order now, as you can cancel it at any time up until you take delivery.

 

If you log on to the Toyota order system you should see a menu item at the top of the page that says "My Order" (or something like that) If you click on this item you get a page that sumerizes your order and this should include the confirmation number. The order number that everyone talks about on this list is the last four digits of the confirmation number.

BTW - if you log on to Yahoo Groups you will see ads for ordering the Prius.

 

Regarding hand-raisers not ordering: I think I pre-registered, just to get whatever emails might come out with regard to the car, out of general curiosity. I'm happy with my 2004 Prius for road trips, and extremely happy with my electric car for daily driving, so I have no intention of buying the PiP at this time. I suspect a LOT of people pre-registered just to see what was up, and some pre-registered who had not yet decided, on the grounds that it's better to be on the pre-list and not buy the car, than to decide you want the car and not be on the list.

Pre-registering is an expression of interest, not a declaration of intent to purchase.

The hand-raisers "get in line" both opened and closed before the pricing, colors, and package content were revealed.

It would have been more efficient for Toyota if they had asked, once the most crucial data was shared (pricing, colors, package content), who was going to proceed with an order and place them in a sub-category to determine how many to pre-offer, I suppose.

I still think that because of the small production totals cross country, this didn't matter much to them. The cars will sell. As my old boss used to say: "there's an nice person for every seat..." and in CA, since the car means HOV lanes for single occupancy, they WILL sell here. :rockon:

You still need to get a quote from a dealer, and then accept the quote on line.

 

There is also some small probability of buyer's remorse. Not necessarily a huge %, by any means, but there will be some. Maybe 1-5% won't follow through with a purchase. I could see 30-50 cars going unclaimed out of what it looks like have been pre-ordered.

I have also started thinking about what might happen if I can't sell my current Prius before the big day. I don't want to get stuck in the position of trading it in. Others may be in the same situation, and so there may be a few more who don't complete their purchase.

 

I've advised my buyers to start early.

I mean, hey - no excuse. You have MONTHS to mention to friends, family, co-workers and for the word to spread that you're going to sell your old car IN THE SPRINGTIME. Luckily, in my case, I had friends who wanted my old 2007 - with 157K on it. And, I went into an extra car waiting in the wings for a while... but when the time comes, I have to sell my 2011 Prius IV in black with sunroof/NAV etc. OR can pass it to my son if he isn't deployed. I plan to start mentioning this car being for sale (if it is for sale) about 8 weeks before the PHEV hits ground. That way we all have time to prepare: buuyers can prepare to sell their own car if needed, look at financing options, adopt a lease, or even work on their savings accounts with more diligence.

There will always be circumstances out of one's control but I do not expect 5% of the pre-order buyers to nosedive. That's way too much a ratio for folks who've been excited, anxious and awaiting this car. In CA - it's the hottest thing due to the HOV lane issues.

 

I got a number but it disappeared on me.That is the worst site I have ever seen.I tried for two weeks before finally accomplishing.

 

The current plan is to sell my '05 Prius to my son & his wife. Other people have also expressed interest in buying it from me, but family gets first crack. I had intended on keeping the car for at least 8 or 9 years before buying a new one, but the opportunity for a PiP that gets me back in the carpool lane is very hard to pass up here in the Bay Area.

 

In the case of the Nissan Leaf there was a $99 fully refundable deposit for "hand-raisers" but no additional deposit when you actually placed your order. The $99 was refundable --no questions asked-- right up until purchase, so you could walk away any time before you signed the papers to drive the car off the lot. A few people did walk, but I think the number was small.

 

So I realize I am a little late on this, but is all the pre-ordering basically over at this point? What are the options if you didn't get in on the pre-order? Just wait until the summer for dealers to get some in? Is there anything else you can do?

Not to late. Toyota sent out another email looking for buyers just over 12 hours ago.

Guys, you missed what they inferred. They didn't have a sign in ... we all signed up during April 19 - Aug 22. They didn't. This car wasn't on their radar till recently.

 

Infact they refunded $99 even after purchase - since that $99 didn't go towards the purchase !
