I really hate the 8 bit multi info display. For what we are paying, Toyota should contact Samsung for a super AMOLED display.
it is easy to trash your in town gas mileage especially if you do not anticipate traffic well. hi dad who is in his eighty's has vision issues so he anticipates traffic poorly because his vision simply does not allow him to see the overall flow of traffic as well as he should . so he averages 35-36 miles per gallon while driving around town. still loves his Prius because they do 350 mile road trip for you to just 55 miles per gallon so he makes up for it
Really? It's not that bad is it? Toyota was explaining at Tokyo auto show that it costs more to produce hybrids and it's only feasible with lots of cars sold, so they have to make cuts somewhere. I'm lovin' the stellar fuel economy, and it's comfortable too!
To play devil's advocate, I'd liketo see the 1 minute diplay of in town driving, and see the conditions like outside temp, tires pressure, car load and all. 36 MPG around town? Here's a 16 minute town trip - http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-iii...00703-1-minute-gage-pic-trip-post-office.html Wonder how hard I'd have to drive my car to get 40 MPG around town. I guess heater at full blast would be a start.
I do not the squeaking - the part of the dash that extends to the center console/cup holder - mostly in the cold weather. Also the buzzing under certain acceleration - seems to be coming from behind the glove box. But my 52.7 mpg average over 20,000 plus miles is OK.
Coming from a 2005 (so I had the lower resolution screen, not the high res ones found on the 2006+ models w/ backup camera), it did feel a bit chinzy. The full colour Energy Monitor and Consumption Screen on the 2005 was nice. The battery meter had a high glance value. Now you have to count the battery bars because they're all the same monotone green. They've made changes for 2012 and have added a bit more depth and colour but still can't compare.
Things I don't like --rear seat belt buckles sink into the back seat--kid car seats a nightmare! --my steering wheel doesn't adjust to a comfortable position --the steering wheel material is uncomfortable to grip --the sun visors don't block enough space --MPG is not shown on each "display"
I'm just a short time owner but I love the vehicle. The only drawback I've noticed that could use some improvement would be the visibility out the rear windshield. So far, that's it.
1. Power mode should be persistent 2. Eliminate the dreaded shaking apart at starting. It happened once and that was enough. 3. Eliminate the sucking, clicking, hooting and barking sounds in the braking system 4. Better quality interior materials, please! 5. Better FM radio That's it. Do those things and the car will be perfect. One final thing - I would really like to see the blind spot monitoring system in all future Priuses. It would be more important than abs brakes and vehicle stability control.
1. Get the leather model and ENJOY the leather wrapped wheel... Ahhhh 2. I've come to the conclusion that most guys do not use sun visors or umbrellas... LOL
i agree its easy to average 40+ mpg in town. i get my best gas mileage in town and 50+ mpg even in winter is not difficult at all but...my dad does not accelerate smoothly or does he anticipate traffic well at all. he has had eye surgery on the one and states that he is now having issues with the other. not sure how much longer he will be able to continue driving to be honest with ya
Sorry about that. I hope all is safe in the meantime. It's tough, my Mother is 83 and still drives some.
In the past, I have owned a 2004 and a 2009 Prius. I just got a new 2011 Prius this past Monday. Here are a couple things I miss on my 2011: Fog lights Headlights that go off immediately after the car is turned off. (However, if I read the manual correctly, lights now go off 30 seconds after the car is turned off, right?) I've been shutting off the headlights manually up until now. I have to physically push the unlock button on my key fob now if I want to open the back hatch. (Or, am I doing something wrong?) These all seem minor to me...kind of "nice to have" features...but not absolutely necessary.
Just remember to turn your headlight switch off, when you start the car, the headlights will turn back on if you don't.
The Prius Three (used to be III) comes with 1-door SKS. The default is for the SKS to only recognize the driver's door and only unlock the driver's doors. The other doors must be unlocked from the driver's inside door lock or with the key fob. The dealer can change this to unlock all doors from the driver's door. This is a customizable feature. Now that I think about it there may be something in the Owner's Manual that explains how to change this from 1 door to all doors. Some others that have done this may chime in on how to do this.
Can someone direct me to the threads on how to cure Gen III rattles. IT will be much appreciated! Also are there any service bulletins if I take it to the dealership? I'm afraid that they might make it worse if they have to take things apart. Have a great day all!
i cured what little rattles i had by removing everything from the car. found out later that change sitting in arm container and bass volume above +2 is what was causing my buzzing sound... does that qualify as a rattle?
Correct, there's a 30 second delay. It can be customised by your dealer and you can have it turn off immediately after you open the driver's door.
