I just did my first oil change (newly acquired 2009 3 months ago). I did my own oil change and I had expected to see an underbody panel under the engine bay. I have seen other oil change threads talking about an access door to be careful about. Well... there is no panel under the engine, just open access to the drain plug and filter and the whole middle area is open. Am I missing a panel? If so, does anyone have a part number? I am getting ~50MPG on my commute (250+mi rt - 4000+ ft elevation change), so I don't think I am losing much in aerodynamics. Thanks, David
There is a less enclosed underbody panel on the Gen II, but some of us have removed them for various reasons. It may be that yours was removed as well. But, as said, you don't need to remove it for oil changes on the Gen II.
Here are pictures under a Gen 2 and under a gen 3 http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-iii.../84539-skid-plate-2010-prius.html#post1183052
Here's a link to my series showing the skid plate install. It shows the underside with the underbody panels installed and what they look like removed. http://flic.kr/s/aHsiU3DvDx
