Congratulations to everyone who was able to place an order. I was not so fortunate from Ohio. I was curious if they didn't allocate many vehicles to people logging in from Ohio. If you placed an order could you please tell the state from which you were able to place the order?
Ohio. Buying in MD (edit) No problem (other than going through the order process 4 times, because of web site slowdowns).
I logged in the minute site opened and got until where I could select the dealer and then is said. "No dealers in your area, change zipcode". But I never gave it any zipcode.....
I believe Dianne said previously that you would pay Ca tax if you drove the car off the lot yourself. If you have it trucked, the rules are different.
I bought my current 2007 Prius in California, mostly because there was a wait list and I was able to skip the list due to corporate connections in CA CA sales tax is paid if the car's certificate of origination is in California, in my case I had to pay for the dealer to transfer my car to Oregon (hired driver)...I drove a new Camry and their guy drove my Prius to Oregon. We then went into a bank with a notary to sign documents verifying that I took ownership in the state of Oregon. The dealership then submitted that paperwork to Toyota to have the certificate of origination reissued for the state of Oregon...so I had to wait a while longer before I could register the car as the title and such couldn't be issued until after that was done. It was a bit of a PITA, but perhaps if the car is ordered for delivery into another state that isn't an issue. Our car was originally to be sold in CA...of course with Toyota specifying which states the car is available in, perhaps they aren't going to let it "originate" in a non-launch state...which means the CA sales tax would be tied to the car. YMMV.
