Thanks to all in this forum! I'm looking forward to learning a lot here. My wife and I bought a new 2011 on Veterans Day. It's a blue level 3. It replaced a 2003 Honda Civic hybrid that was getting on in miles. We were between the Fusion and the Prius but went for the better mileage. I hope to listen and learn, and maybe share some things I find out!
Buying a 2011 Prius on 11/11/11, what a day to be buying a new car ! Let us know your experience coming from a Civic Hybrid to the Prius.
Congrats!!! I've only been here for a couple months but seem to learn something new every time I log on. Tons of great info and very supportive and helpful network of Prius owners. Enjoy your new ride!!!
I've got both. They are both excellent cars on their own merits. Welcome to Priuschat! :welcome: Get comfy. . .tons of info and lots of good people to meet.
Well, I've never had an HCH, but from what I've read, the key thing you should know for mileage is that the Prius is an anti-HCH. That is, the Prius excels when you keep the engine off working the EV assist hard, while the HCH is about staying easy on the engine and off the assist. PS Blue's my favorite Prius color. I just got a car and didn't pick the color so I didn't get blue.
Welcome to Prius Chat! Hopefully you enjoy your 2011 Prius as much as I have mine. We are here if you have any questions or need any tips. I am sure though since you already came from another hybrid that you know the drill though.
accellerate with the engine and glide with no gas or electric power, but do not use electric only or your mileage will be miserable. if you deplete the battery, it takes more energy than you saved to recharge it.
Thanks for the welcomes! It's really a great car. We've put in aftermarket heated leather seats--that's really the only thing we wanted from the level IV trim--so we're ready to go. The 2003 HCH seems like a comparatively primitive design now that I've seen the power management of the Prius. The newer Hondas better mimic some of the Prius' tricks, but it seems that Toyota is way ahead on this technology. See you around!
