Observing a woman who (a) left a health-related workshop meeting wearing  a fully-pelted fox fur coat hanging down to her shoes and (b) who got into her Prius and shot out of the parking lot.

Hopefully she will learn about the cruelty and suffering that is the fur business.

The only irony I see is that she "shot out" of anything with a Prius...

MS recently voted down a constitutional amendment by very radical* anti abortionists called Personhood, but which denied 50% of the population personhood rights.

The most vocal opponents were prospective mothers who would be denied the possibility to ever have a child by the wording of the amendment.

    * no exemptions for rape or incest, no provision for not killing the mother in case the pregnancy goes wrong, both have to die. no in vitro fertilization, no birth control for females

I, personally, see no moral difference between wearing fur and eating meat.

How about your leather hiking boots? It's demand for meat that furnishes most hides.

I abandoned all my morals about a decade ago. That's why I wear leather hiking boots (I used to wear only canvas & rubber boots), why I eat fish, and why I don't care what other people eat (I used to get angry at people who eat meat).

I originally became a vegetarian for ethical reasons. Now that I no longer have any ethics, I eat fish, and the only reason I still don't eat meat is that it disgusts me, and is less healthy than a vegetarian + fish diet.

I don't wear fur, and the only leather I wear is the hiking boots. But it's not a matter of ethics, it's just habit, and the fact that hiking boots are the only clothing where leather is the best material. (If I rode a motorcycle I'd probably wear leather for protection. But wild horses couldn't get me on a motorcycle.)

15 years ago I would not have worn leather under any circumstances. And I ate no meat, fish, fowl, or shellfish.

I've tried vegan boots. They didn't fit my feet. The selection is just too limited. And since I no longer have any ethical objections to anything, I decided to get the best boots I could find. Presently I'm using a pair of Lowa full-grain leather boots, heavy but with good ankle support. I've put 5 seasons of hiking on them, the last two on the second set of soles, and I've never gotten a blister in them, though I've hiked over 20 km on numerous occasions. I keep them greased and they keep my feet dry even in the rain. They were pure hell to break in, but they are the best boots I've ever had.

Hiking is my favorite activity, and I want the best boots I can find to keep my feet going as long as I can.

I really can't deal with most "vegan" shoes/boots, either.

I have a fairly limited shoe selection, which has minimal animal product usage (no thigh-high leather boots, in other words). I do have a pair of shoes I've had for 4 years, which I wear most of the time, that does have "suede trim"... so, a small strip of animal hide... but, they don't hurt my feet.

In my perfect life, no animals would ever be harmed. I strive for minimal damage at all times.
