Agreed. I saw nothing unusual on what he was doing for his car. I especially can't fault someone on the tires, I got rid of my Avid S33D after the first year, and got Firestone tires. Then this year got rid of those, too.

For the cosmetic thing, I've been called anal at work because the small formatting things get to me when sending emails. Like if you are copying and pasting information from a spreadsheet, and you have the borders around everything but the bottom of the last row of cells. That drives me nuts! So, I definitely can understand wanting to have the wheel covers on all tires.

I am a little different. I really take care of my vehicles but I do it without wasting a lot of money. Before the Prius I had a 2000 4Runner that I bought new. I put 305,000 miles on it over 10 years. I never did standard scheduled maintenance. I had oil changes every 5k, one timing belt at 180K, front brakes at 170K, tires every 70K. Excluding oil changes and tires, I spent less than $1,000 on repairs over the life of the vehicle. I sold the vehicle for $5,000. Here are pics I used to sell it on Craigslist.

I predict I will get the same out of my Prius.

I remember your original thread and it was indeed in fantastic condition. I'm curious why you care that he may spend more over the lifetime of his car vs. what you spent? I mean if it makes him feel good to stay up on his maintenance then who cares. :)

Whatever is covered under "Toyota Care" is all that is needed. This isn't the 50's and 60's when lubricants were less tolerant. Today's formulations are made to last according to the manf. specs. They're not in the business of creating needless warranty claims.

My '10 Xterra Off Road has 14,000 miles and runs straight as an arrow. I rotate tires every 5,000 and forget about it.

However, if you have the means and you feel good about going the extra mile, ENJOY!

This might be a dumb question but I am curious. How did you get 170,000 miles on your front brakes? That sounds like Prius numbers. Thanks

I drive alot of highway miles. I never replaced the rear brakes over 305,000 miles.
