I own two gen 3 prius. My wife drives the II and I drive the IV. When I apprach her Prius with her key fob, the interior lights come on before I touch the door handle. This does not occur with my IV when I approach it with my key fob. Is there a setting I need to change to have this occur?

Evidently she locks her doors and you do not. The interior lights only come on when it senses the keyfob if the doors are locked.

Or the switch for the interior lights, in the overhead console, is not in the door position so that they come on when the door opens.

Both cars are locked. Both cars have interior light switch at door position. Her lights come on when approached, mine doesn't.

I would take it to the dealer and have them check it out. The interior lights should come on with door locked and approached by the keyfob.

If you haven't, you might try moving the interior light switch to another position and back again, you never know...might save you a trip to the dealer. Only other suggestion, try it with your spare key fob. i always try the easy stuff first, good luck

There is a dealer-customisable setting to have that turned off. Maybe it was off when you got the car?

I tend to agree with your observation. I don't ever remember this feature working since I got the car last February. Since daylight hours got longer for the summer, I never really noticed. I have my 15k service coming up. I will address it with the dealer then.
Thanks to everyone who responded. :)

Here's a snippet of the custom settings for llumination. The default is ON. Sounds like the dealer turned it OFF.

Nope. They're not used often anyway and if they are, you shouldn't be adjusting the mirrors while driving anyway (and they can be done by touch I would think even if you had to).

The only stuff that's illuminated on the left side are the solar panel ventilation system and headlight washers if equipped of course.
