Camry wagon is a Venza but if they built a hybrid Venza, you'd average maybe 32 MPG. Just get the v, keep it in power mode and you won't miss 200 HP. Soon you would get used to the power delivery.
I was thinking HiHy for the optional 4WD-i that's good for light duty such as snowy roads within the city (but not deep snow or off-roading).
Can you keep the hybrid in power mode indefinitely or do you have to hit the button once after each time you start the car?
The car won't stay in EV when it cannot sustain it. Yes, you'd need to hit it every time you start the car. Not a bunch of effort in that move.
I would guess there would be some loss of market. However, the market of 3rd gen + the market of the v will be much larger than just the 3rd gen.
1. I'm not sure why you mentioned EV. I'm just talking about the what amounts to mostly pedal mapping (eco vs normal vs power vs sports vs whatever name they come up with for the button in other markets on the many vehicles that have such buttons) 2. That's how I thought the Power mode worked. I've done enough tech support in my life to know that if you can't make the setting permanent you'll get people forgetting about it and complaining again. Not that big a deal for me but after seeing cycledrum say I had to ask if any car did behave that way, or if someone had done a mod like that.
I would have been more correct to say 'keep putting it in power mode'. I said that because I think you mentioned 200 HP of a HyCam. We had the discussion about a way to keep it in power mode. The concencus is don't push for it because valet's and others who don't know the car might mash the gas and hit someone or thing.
I agree. We would never had bought a Prius, if the v did not come out. 40-45MPG is bad for a Small Wagon? LMAO! Ok, maybe to a small and tiny hybrids. EDIT: I measured all the specs on the Prius v VS 11 Outback. Same cargo space, the OB is slightly bigger overall in all aspects, in size and leg/headroom. OB weights 400+/- Lbs more and the Prius v gets 20-22 MPG better in the city and 8-12 MPG better on the highway. The Prius v will cannibalize small/midsize SUV/CUV sales! I was hocked on how close it was. I was expecting a compact wagon. Not a mid-size wagon. The wife traded-in her 04 Highlander for this. she goes form 19 city to 44 city with not much loss of room and space. I would say the prius v has more backseat room than my 11 Outback wagon. No everyone needs super high fuel efficiency and wants to drives compact to sub-compact cars. new new Highlander Hybrid is too large and expensive and the Venza does not come in a Hybrid anymore. So it was the Prius v now or a Rav4 Hybrid next spring, which will be the prius v only competition that I am aware of for Hybrids in their size and space capacity. With her 4.2 mile roundtrip commute, 44 MPG will be great!
We get 30mpg in our Lexus suv hybrid ... not too far off. The Lexus Ct hybrid's epa (combined) is 42 ... so I'd bet there are other Lexus' that get in the 30's as well.
Huh? Only thing I've heard is a concept vehicle for a Rav4 electric with, I think a Tesla type drive train. I don't know how well Rav4 would do as a hybrid - awfully big wheels and tires and lot of ground clearance. The Cd would be quite high.
It's just like the Prius regular. My wife is used to it and I'm used to hitting Eco after she's driven it.

The Venza was never a hybrid But yes, the idea of the Prius v was to provide an alternative to small SUVs You're assuming the next gen RAV4 will continue with 17 and 18" rims. It's possible the hybrid may come in a 16" option or keep the current 17" (which is no different from the Camry XLE Hybrid with 17" rims). It has to different enough so that people won't look at a Prius v and go "why buy that instead of a RAV4?" It has to have more than just AWD.
Have you heard the Rav4 hybrid will get AWD? People might be mad if there wasn't an AWD version, but I wonder how they would do it. hmm.
Yes, I noticed that when we went in person to look at it. REally? I swear I saw on the first year they came out. No wonder the did not have a 2012 one available. My bad and a dumb move by Toyota IMO.
WT? Since when is 43.6 mpg we're getting with our v dismal mileage, especially considering size and cargo space of the v compared the reg Prius. I don't think the v will cut into the G3 sales as much as it will Foresters' and some Hondas' for those that don't have to have the all wheel or 4w drive. We would have bought a new Forester had this prius not come out.
Exactly, I'm coming from a Forester. Not sure if I'll jump yet; mine is relatively new, and I do like the AWD. BUT if Godzilla totaled my ride today, I would quickly grab a Vrius and not get another subaru. I like the cabin design better, and I love the mileage (might have to get better set of tires to make up for lack of AWD). I should add that I don't like the cramped interior of the prius; the Vrius seems the perfect size.
