Europe is made up of many countries (45 I believe ) so it is possible that what is available in one country is not available in an other. In the UK 0w20 oil is readily available in many brands, although some dealers still do not use it, but to say it is not available in Europe is misleading.

Subaru is also using 0W20 now.

I have sent a mail to the chief mechanic at my dealer asking why in the motor bonnet there is a tag saying that the oil viscosity should be 5W30, when the user's manual clearly says to use the 0W20 and the 5W30 only occasionally and if used, to replace it with 0W20 the following time.
The tag seems to be more a reminder for them to put 5W30, than that they used, for some reason the 0W20 (as the receipt of my last 30.000km states...).
I am waiting for his reply to see what he says....

It's been 5 years, did you ever get a reply? Does your 2016 Gen IV use 0W-20 oil and is it now available?

After the first service they always used 0W-20 oil. It is normally available now at Toyota dealers. Never checked online if it is available.

Does your paperwork show the cost for the 0W20?

5 quarts (4.73 liters) are here like US-$13.- (with mobil1 rebate, otherwise like $22.- without rebate)/

The price I mentioned was from the Toyota dealer.
A quick search on Amazon.de gave me this for example.
It seems that Toyota is possibly ripping off - considering they buy in bulk. It seems to be the market price though.
Maybe I need to ask the dealer if they can use oil I provide them when they do the 15.000 check. I am not too sure the answer will be "yes" (for warranty issues).

So much for the global village: our dealership sells bottled liters of Toyota 0W20 for $5.91 (Canadian dollars) or bring-your-own-bottle bulk purchase for $4.50 per liter.

It is strangely cheap, seems like US dealerships charge near double that.

As I understand, engine oils simply cost a lot in Europe, relative to what they do here. (Taxation, maybe?) This is part of what drives long maintenance intervals in general, and the synthetics to support them.

    Welcome to Europe.

Btw, you should check out the website of Toyota Denmark (Toyota.dk) and see the prices of a Prius there. It is about 60k€ due to a 150% tax (on top of 25% VAT) on all vehicles sold there. The most sold car is the Aygo, the VW Up and so on.....
