Next time, if you can try to do a better job with punctuation and sentences it will be easier to answer your questions. I had to read your post two or three times to understand it.

The answer to your question about if they will deal, the answer is yes. Call XM and select their cancellation department. Tell them that there full price is too high. Ask for the repeat of the $77 fee + royalty fees again and let them know that you will renew at this price.

Several on here have done this and have gotten the half-price renewal.

I just paid the lifetime subscription three years ago for $299.00 (this was before the royalty fee). With the lifetime subscription you have to pay a $75 transfer fee each time you move it to another radio. I believe the lifetime fee including royalty is $460. better to pay it once and forget about it. Lifetime is all channels (and no, I don't listen to Howard Stern).

I have lifetime on two portable radios, one actually transferred from a vehicle radio to a portable but be aware that now the contract states that lifetime subscriptions in a vehicle installed radio CANNOT be transferred (ie when you sell the car). It stays permanently with that vehicle (or maybe they cancel it when car sells?). It was a good deal at $299 but now its pretty pricy esp since it can't be transferred. I take GOOD care of my portables ;)

just a heads up. my 3 month trial ended in mid february. I got the usual bill for $157. I waited til today and called the 800 number, talked to an american, and asked if there was a promotional deal that i heard about in the prius forum and he offered it up with no complaints. About $85 for the year. he did warn me that i needed to keep the date in mind because in one year they will automatically reup at the full price. He did say that if i call before the date i can get the promotional price again.

but i have to admit the lifetime deal sounds better. I may have to look into that too.

'Unfo'? Is that the opposite of info? Please punctuate sentences next time.

I got the $88 deal, but I did it by check after threatening to cancel. I will not give them my credit card number, because then they've got you right where they want you. Ditto the lifetime payment. When XM goes out of business, you will be out a lot of money. And they are on the verge of going out of business every day from what I read.

I was told the half price deal isn't currently available. I told them to cancel. She was reading from a script. You want to cancel. I can now offer you....At the end of the call she reviewed the deal. Started with you decided to cancel the service..we offered you.....and you decided to stay.......

I would have canceled without the deal. I'm sure a few days later I would have been offered some kind of deal.

The deal wasn't available if you just asked for it. You had to first request cancellation. I wasn't transferred to a retention person. The regular CSR was able to offer the deal.

I have been thinking about getting the XM radio set up in my car and was wondering if anyone in Canada has got the same $77 deal from XM Canada. The prices they have listed on the XMradio.ca site make the regular rates from XMradio.com look cheap. I would probably be willing to pay $77 but anything more seems useless for how infrequently I would listen to it.

Here is the latest eye-popping cost for lifetime XM, per an email I sent to them. They are up to $700/$800, plus royalty fees. *WAY* too rich for me. I'll just leave an iPod Touch permanently in my car. When I park, it will sync automatically now with iOS 5 because my driveway is covered by my WiFi.

XM is out of their minds, if you ask me. I like the service from my trial, but there is no way I'm paying that kind of money for something I cannot even transfer to another car. Anyhow, here is the customer support response:

Thank you for contacting SiriusXM regarding the XM Lifetime subscription. For your reference, we're providing you some relevant information on our Lifetime subscription.

With this subscription, you receive Sirius or XM service for the LIFE of your receiver, for a one-time fee of $799.99 + U.S. Music Royalty Fee and any applicable tax for the Sirius or XM Premier package and $699.99 + U.S. Music Royalty Fee and any applicable tax for the Sirius or XM Select package. This plan enables you to receive the quality programming that SiriusXM offers for years to come at a great price. You never have to worry about paying another bill for your service.

You can transfer your subscription to a new receiver a maximum of three times, for a fee of $75 per transfer. This transfer fee does not apply to replacement equipment that falls under warranty. As with all our receivers, there is an activation fee of $15 for activation.

    Additional Information:

    - A cancellation fee will not be incurred when an existing subscriber upgrades to a Lifetime Subscription. The Lifetime Subscription cannot be cancelled.

    - The Lifetime Subscription is only available to individual subscribers (not businesses or for re-sale) and are available on all products.

    - If a current subscriber upgrades to the Lifetime Subscription, they will receive a credit for any unused portion of their current plan towards the cost of the Lifetime Subscription.

    - The payment can be divided into 5 EZ payments.

    - A "Lifetime Subscription" is one that continues for the life of the Receiver equipment. Lifetime Subscriptions are non-refundable. You may cancel a Lifetime Subscription but if you cancel during the first year of service you will be charged a cancellation fee set forth in these Terms. Non Automotive Receivers: A Lifetime Subscription associated with a home, portable, or dock & play Receiver is transferable from one Receiver to another Receiver, up to a maximum of three (3) times. For each permitted transfer of a subscription from one Receiver to another or from one person to another you will be charged a transfer fee set forth in these Terms. Automotive Receivers: A Lifetime Subscription is not transferable if it is associated with a Receiver installed by an automaker or an automotive dealer in a vehicle, except in the event the original Receiver associated with that Lifetime Subscription is stolen, accidentally damaged or if, in the sole discretion of Sirius, it is defective. For each permitted transfer of a subscription from one person to another based upon a stolen or accidentally damaged Receiver you will be charged a transfer fee set forth in these Terms. No transfer fee will be charged for the transfer of a Lifetime Subscription associated with a Receiver installed by an automaker or an automotive dealer if, in the sole discretion of SiriusXM, the Receiver is defective.

My subscription runs out this week. I have renewed it twice for $77 + the royalty fee. If they give me that same deal again I'll renew, otherwise they have seen the last of me.

    Tom,

Mine also runs out this week. Just finished calling XM cancellation department and when told I would cancel at the $157 rate immediately offered the $77 rate. Total was $90 and change.
So I am good for another year :)

Right after sign-up, I read through the confirmation email and noticed the auto-renew policy. I phoned them up and got it changed to getting an invoice when the subscription is nearing expiration. This was at their suggestion, I guess it's fairly common.

    So that's still going:rockon:

I bought my other car in 2006, when the free 3 months was up I renewed for $77/yr then again the year. Then I decided it wasn't worth the $77 and dropped it. They did offer the 77 again when I finally dropped it.

Got my Prius in July. It had the automatic 3 mo XM. I never ever used it a let it expire. I listen to most of my music with a 4 gb flash drive plugged into the USB port in the center. I also use my iPhone 4 as an bluetooth audio device and play from the iPhone.

But when I occasionally feel like radio, I listen to "TuneIn Radio" which is a free app which allows me to listen to pretty all the live radio stations in the US and further. It also streams police, airport, fire, etc. There are some live radio stations that don't permit the streaming which I get via other free apps like "iHeartRadio" which access most of the ClearChannel radio stations. And then there is occasional station which doesn't allow anyone like WCBS-FM (oldies) in NYC which uses flash so I can listen to it on my laptop but not iPhone which does not support flash.

Then for those times I want Internet radio - its Pandora (also free). Today with my grandson in the back seat we spent the day listening to the children's Disney channel.

Both of the above support Bluetooth so I can stream them through the car speakers. So between the above four options, I personally don't see any reason for XM (though I have to honestly say, I have not checked with radio stations get blacked out for sporting events).

As a film/tv/orchestral composer, I regularly listen to NYC's WQXR-FM live in my car though I live in Houston.

I called and renewed this morning at the 1/2 rate, $77 + music royalty fee. I ask for cancellation and told the truth, I would not renew at the regular rate. They offered the reduced rate for the third time so I accepted, I also switched my account to invoice billing which will cost an extra $2/year.

They won't send you an invoice, will automatically switch you to an annual sudscription. If you call after the renewal rate, you'll be charged a pro-rated amount for the annual subscription. How do I know?

Put a reminded on your calendar to call them a couple days prior to your expiration for renewal.

    I'm calling Friday.

I also told the truth when I said that I would not renew at the regular rate and let her know that. It is worth it at the reduced rate but not at the regular rate. This is my third time also.

Yes, that is why I always call a few days early. To make sure that they do not automatically bill me at the regular rate.

I already have a reminder to call in Nov. 2012 !

    You are correct.

I did not ask for an invoice but received one in the mail today. On the invoice it says "See important Automatic Renewal Terms on reverse".

Automatic Renewal Terms: Your subscription will automatically renew for additional periods of the same length as the Plan you choose, at the then current renewal rate, until you call SiriusXM to cancel.

As I said, I have Nov. 6, 2012 marked on my calendar.
