Just came back from test driving a Prius V 5 although I want a 3 but they only had 5s in stock. Apparently it will be another couple of weeks before the 3s arrive. I guess they decided to stock only the 5s since (I guess) this part of northeastern NJ is pretty affluent.

Overall I feel very positive and I am now sure that I will definitely buy this car. My observations
    • Interior room was great. second row passengers will not feel cramped.
    • Much noisier than my current Camry but acceptable
    • Not as feeble in acceleration as I expected. I was able to merge on to a highway without too much hassle.
    • The A pillars were pretty thick
    • I really did not care much for the feel of the fake leather - I think plain old fabric will work fine for me.

Towne Toyota of Ledgewood just called. There have a Build 3 on the lot. We picked-up our Build 3 earlier this week at another dealership. You might want to given them a call if you don't mind the drive West on I80. Ask for "Rob", as he is the guy that called us. Good luck!

Yes, MSRP has been my experience with the three dealers in NW NJ I have had interactions with. There is not a lot of consumer leverage on the leading edge of the roll-out.

Thanks for the info - I will call the dealer you mentioned. I am pretty much resigned to paying MSRP so I am glad they are not adding anything to that at least.

Anyone else in the SF Bay Area get the feeling that demand for the Prius v isn't huge right now? Maybe it's because of the first week, but both dealerships I've been to so far, Milpitas and Fremont, have had sales people very unenthusiastic about the car, and neither of them were very knowledgeable about them either. Maybe I just got unlucky with the salesmen I talked with. Also, they both said not too many people have come in to inquire about them all week. We'll see if things pick up this weekend. If they don't, maybe the dealerships will be a little more willing to cut a deal in this area :)

Dealers in the SF bay area are largely clueless re: the v, though SF Toyota/Scion just posted a picture of the v and seems to be talking it up nicely. As for demand, my friend who thought he could get the same deal Dianne was offering up here has discovered otherwise. They are wanting MSRP and inventories seem low.

There were at least half a dozen Prius vs at the Milpitas dealership on Wednesday, and I was told new ones are coming in every day or two. I was actually surprised at how many they had.

On Tuesday, Fremont had at least 3 in or right by the showroom, probably more out in the lot.

Doesn't sound like there is really low inventory at either one of those dealerships.

I agree, supply and demand are balanced right now, do not pay more than MSRP, and push for discounts. Also, you should be able to get whatever color and trim package you want. May take a few weeks to get a deal. The good news is they are great and worth the wait, love my new v.:)

I wonder if the problem is that the V and the hatchback look somewhat similar. Only after I went for the test drive did I realize what a different car it really is. In a sense, the Prius V competes (quite effectively I think) with much bigger vehicles. I love the large amount of usable space in the V.

In my case, I need to replace an aging Sienna minivan and have been looking for economical alternatives. I have put off buying a replacement so far because I could not find anything that appealed to me. The Prius V comes closest to meeting my requirements and now I have become really enthusiastic about it.
