Does anyone know is it worth it to put DVD headrest on a Prius? Just got my car and thinking about re-placing OEM headrest to DVD for the kids. Will this drain the battery pack or causes any malfunction on the vehicle?
I was just looking at some on ebay. Seems like a great idea. If you hook them up right, you won't have any more problems than with a conventional vehicles. You would want to prevent running the units for a prolong period of time without the car in ready mode though (battery drain).
DVD players don't take much power, so there isn't any real concern with mileage or the like. Just make sure you connect it to a switched power source so that it doesn't draw power when the vehicle is off. Tom
My kids would go nuts if I tossed in some video headrests, but where to house the video source? Under the passenger seat?
The units I saw on ebay were self-contained. Otherwise one could hook up there aftermarket HU like mine to just plain monitors in the headrests or even just a portable unit in the backseat. Lots of options.
I think the self-contained units would look too big for the small Prius headrests. But, I'd love to be proved wrong.
On the Gen II Prius the space under the passenger seat holds the JBL amplifier. I'm not sure about this on the Gen III. Tom
