I hate the Prius GPS as well. I am in the Northeast, traveling mostly throughout NJ, PA, and NY. My problem is never the machine not finding the address, it's the route it takes me to get there. It NEVER wants me to take toll roads, even if it means driving an extra 10, 20, or more miles per trip. It's absurd. Any advice? Also, I pay for the XM Traffic service and I have yet to even see it working. I know it's activated but I'm not sure if it's really doing anything beyond that. Besides that, I would trade nothing for my Prius (except a newer and nicer Prius)! Thanks in advance...this forum is great, you guys rock.
I have DVD version 08.1 with U90 in the upper right corner. I had the same results as cwerdna when searching, except in my version you can't type in the "house #" if it's not in the database - or at least I couldn't figure it out. Basically, when I typed 710, it wouldn't let me proceed at all because it didn't find it.
The only time I got traffic alerts was when I was stuck in line at the Lincoln Tunnel. XM Traffic "helpfully" notified me of "congestion". I'm not sure where it gets its data but I'd be surprised if it covers much more than the toll roads & Interstates through Jersey.
I was able to get the Concord ddress, no problem. The Modesto address it didn't have. And mine is a 2004 with the original nav DVD. But when I look up the Modesto address with Google maps, I don't find it either. Looking at that street, according to Google it goes from like 7100 to 7109, with no 710. So it would make sense, if that is the case, for the Prius not to be able to find it. I remember a few years back there was a recall on the early NV DVDs, do you know if you did that recall?
I have a 2007 with a version 6 DVD. I live in the Hudson Valley in New York. I have had almost no problems with my nav. I like it better than the Tomtom we got to take on trips that we don't take our car. We also have a 2008 Camry Hybrid with the nav. Only had a few times it didn't find a location.
I actually really enjoy my factory nav...what I DON'T like is the lack of being able to cancel a route....you can only suspend it/replace it with another??? Wth????
On the Gen III I can delete a route at any time. It deletes it from the current route guidance but still saves it in Previous Addresses. You cannot do this on the Gen II ?
I really like my Nav. It is not the most user friendly but after you learn how the system works and set it up to match your driving style it really does a good job. I have used mine for over two years now it has always gotten me from point A to point B without fail, which is what a GPS is supposed to do.
I normally use the voice command: suspend guidance. I believe either delete destination or delete final/all destination(s) should work too.
I played around with 3 methods today on my Gen 2: suspend guidance delete next destination delete all destinations Suspend guidance is the one the takes the fewest steps. The latter two require you to answer Yes either via pushing on the touchscreen or pushing Talk and saying Yes. Another way of getting to suspend guidance is by pressing Menu then Suspend Guidance.
I use both methods. If I am in traffic and need to keep my hands on the wheel, I use the voice command. Otherwise I press the soft button on the MFD. Tom
