A poll about usage of the Touch Tracer - do you use it? does it help? or you end up with your eyes looking on the steering wheel to see what you are touching like in the good 'ol days??
I have pretty much memorized where most of the buttons are. If the Touch Tracer was not there I probably would not miss it. BUT, since it is there I still watch the Touch Tracer to make sure I am on the right button. Then I look at the audio or AC controls to watch any adjustments. I think it probably helps my wife more since she does not drive the car very often.
I don't mind it but I'd rather the money it costs Toyota be put into giving us side signal mirrors here in the U.S. The plug in turned out to have everything I really wanted to see except for those signal mirrors here and if Touch Tracer were gone in place of em' I would never have missed it.
A cute gimmick that serves little purpose. The buttons are more complete and better feeling on our 2009 Prius than our 2010 Prius. The odd color dashboard display should have been scrapped in favor of improving the less than interesting turquoise green display that shows all the info. It is very dated looking. Tom G.
As a middle-aged person who's 20/20 vision just doesn't work very well up close, I find it easier to look at the display than trying to see something printed on the wheel.
I look on the steering wheel or feel the button. The money could have been better spent elsewhere. Inverter temp gauge anyone?
Don't want it, don't like it and definitely don't rely on it and if it broke I wouldn't miss it. And +1 what Paradox mentioned about signal mirrors.
There is. On the 5" MID, go to SETTINGS -> Touch Tracer --> OFF I like it. I think it's a cool feature.
Im old fashioned and not a great multi tasker. I only use the phone buttons on the wheel. The rest I use the a/c or radio buttons on the console.
Thanks for all the replies! I was also thinking that a working FM radio, instead of the touch tracer would not have been a bad idea. Or maybe standard parking sensors rear *and* (especially) front (surely a different cost compared to the Touch tracer, still....). I still don't understand the need of not having the same type of side mirrors worldwide. Is their some kind of legislation in the US preventing Toyota to use side mirror with integrated turn lights? Is the integrated side mirror+turn light, such a high end feature that would destroy the distance (and promote product cannibalisation - which I highly doubt) between a Prius and any Lexus car? I do not understand Toyota's marketing on this, really. Likely they did it to reduce cost. It is likely cheaper (though you need an extra hole in the steel body) to have the turn light behind the front wheels, right? Otherwise I see no other reason...
On the non-nav models you can turn it off as well. Go to the Settings screen and I believe it's called "Steering Switch."
