Is Entune free forever or just the first 3 years? (I mean the Toyota part, I understand about the data part I have to pay on my smartphone)

Is upgrade to a later version (more app or new map) also free?

Is it possible to upgrade a level II (without entune) to level III (with entune) later on? Is this just a software upgrade or hardware upgrade (require you swap out radio and install additional parts)?

    Thanks,

Entune is free from Toyota for the first three years. If you'd like the Entune app to work with your Prius after that, I am told it's $5 a month, and may end up being more for the premium entune system in the ADVANCED cars.

Map upgrade for the NAV system is going to be available later, not free, install by a service tech with a one-time-use USB-port piece.

No ability to switch from a II audio to a III audio later. The head units are not interchangeable.

Zhonda, are you looking to buy a Prius v wagon, a regular or something else?

Judging from his profile I'm guessing his 'dream' would be a 2012 Prius 5 with the AT package... But yes, it'd be nice to know for certain.

You are right about what I really wanted, but the dealer near me are out of them for long time, they want to sell me a level II or level III they have in stock. So the big question is "If I should get a level III this week or wait one month for the level 5 with AT"

What I really wish for is a few buttons (or at least one button) on the wheel that I can program for certain functions like glide (the car should remain in glide mode until I touch gas or brake pedal at any speed)

So, you're NOT looking at the larger 42 mpg combined Prius v wagon but rather than smaller 50 mpg combined "regular" Prius?

    I am looking for a 2012 prius V level 5 with AT.

There is plenty of smaller prius level 5 at dealer lot.

You want to use a lower case v when referring to the wagon.

Dianne still has a few v with AT available if I recall correctly. If you want the v five with AT, (just picked mine up yesterday :) you will NOT be happy with the v Three, and you definitely won't be happy with a v Two.

No, it will not be free. In the link below, according to the admin's Oct 28th post, Entune will cost $150/year (presumably after the 3 years of free service).

The link is toyota-entune.com. This is my first post, so I can't paste the link.

I guess I'll still use my stand alone GPS unit that has no yearly fee. Hopefully, my Toyota dealer will let me know soon when my Prius v II is due to arrive. Paid a deposit last Thursday to secure it. No discounts, unfortunately, though I expected that.

OK -- thought I had clarified this previously.

You do not need Entune for the NAV to work.
You only need to use the Entune for the APPS to work.

    toyota.com/entune

I took a Prius v with AT for a three hour drive up the coast w/o hooking up entune and I did NAV commands, streamed music, and played Pandora too.... you only need Entune for the talk/text interaction with phone and things like weather and gas prices etc...

Weather + Gas prices actually come from XM info services, no need for Entune connection to your iPhone for that either. Near as I can tell you only need Entune for Pandora, iHeartRadio, OpenTable, Bing and MovieTickets. On my HDD Nav, it was able to find nearby starbucks, home depot, dining, and a couple other things this weekend in Fresno with no iPhone Entune connection.

I'm still intermittently running into the "iPod Not Authorized" problem that prevents an iPod or Entune connection from working. I thought it was having a DVD in the system that was causing the problem earlier, but that could have been coincidental.

I noticed this when I updated to iOS 5. Seems restarting the phone cures it.

That's good to hear. It seems to me that for the things you'd be "calling" to Toyota's data center would be the things you would lose after the 3 years. The apps like Pandora would still work without the subscription, right? It would be nice to get a list of what will and won't be available when the entune service runs out.

My wife's new Prius v 5 would not stream pandora, unless her iPhone was plugged in via the cables and entune app was running.
