HID Kit Retailer Poll

now heres something that has me confused (not that it takes much) do I need a [FONT=wp_bogus_font]relay harness ? or is it good to have any way ?? and I am looking a ddm tuning as well

I am not running a relay with my DDM kit (35 watt). I haven't had any problems with it in the year I've used it. I will probably have it used when I put HIDs into some projector fogs, just to be safe at that point.

I'm sure someone else here can more easily explain the pros to having the harness, and how it may help.

i haven't got the chance to post but I love the TRS morimoto kit .. very nice light that you can use ..not the bright white spot in front of the car.. i tried taking a before after with my cell phone but look like crap/same haha and i know there is a big difference between oem and hid. Thanks again for TRS recommendation. I've a hid when they first came out and yeah didn't do much and blinding for others. It was a nice kit too with Phillips ballast and bulbs ..sigh ..

 

Here are the crappy cell phone pic of before and after the TRS hid mod. Didn't have a regular camera when i was doing the mod. But believe me it is a beautiful light. i will take one with my better camera The hid is a cleaner light and you can see everything

 

I went with Volt HID kit ($95 after $25 discount). Very high quality kit and works very well.

 

mine is coming today... can't wait to get it installed.

Was it pretty easy to do?

 

I bought the Morimoto 4300K and the install was done in 20 minutes. I installed the ballast behind the black plastic cover on the side wall. I also swap out the rubber seal from the OEM bulb to the HID bulb. By very careful with installing the HID bulb, they are very fragile.

installed mine yesterday... took about 30 min. I didn't remove the window fluid container so it was a bit cramped.

Wish i went with 5k. the 6k is still a little blue for me. Either way, visibility is much better.

 

Are most of you using relays or not? To my knowledge, the reason for using relays is so the power and ground are used on the harness rather than the factory wires that were spec'd for the halogen bulb. In my older BMW, I used a relay harness because the wiring was "pre-HID." IF all Prius' with or without HIDs have the same wiring, wouldn't it be okay not to use a relay harness??

 

I'm using TRS Morimoto kit with CAN-BUS harness which tricks the CPU to think that the light is not out otherwise a warning will show up on your dash bar. Other than that no relay, you should check out the TRS website lots of information there along with HID planet.

 

I too am looking into the Morimoto kit. Did the ballasts fit behind the side panels? Wihtout the CAN BUS harness will ALL hid units make the error light go on? I never heard that before. Thanks for any info

 

That's a slick feature if the prius threw a code but I haven't read of anyone complaining of one. I ended buying one from ddm without a relay harness.

 

Yes, the ballast did fit behind the side panel. I used double face tape and zip ties to hold them place, it fit pretty well.

Matt at TRS advised me to use the CAN-BUS for the Prius it might trigger the CPU to detect a burn out bulb.

The CAN-BUS harness comes with the kit at no additional cost, I ordered the 4300k kit but now I kind of thinking maybe the 5000k would look better....

 

I purchased this kit and getting ready to install. Curious as to where any of you with the xenondepot extreme hid kit located the 12v relay lead ? TIA

You could stack coupon codes on top of each other to get a bigger discount... I bought 2 Xenon Depot Extreme Digital HID kits... 1 for fogs & 1 for headlights... 4 codes saved me $200.... Each code you use saves you $25 per kit..... yah I found a glitch... Judge me as you will... Just ad the codes individually... I tried to do more but I maxed out.... I didn't want to post until I got the HIDs in hand...

 

Now that's a slick deal.

 

I realize this is an old thread, but since it is relevant I might as well put in here.
