You say wait for the dip? From 1929 to 1932 the Dow Jones Industrial average when from 400 to 40. A 90% drop. We could see the same thing all over again. With the Dollar dropping versus the Yen - don't count on a price drop in the Prius. You can see that Toyota has already raised the base price of the Prius over the past couple of months.
We purchased our 2011 Prius Four metallic blue with navigation package ( JBL speakers, back up camera, illuminated door sil, heated leather seats) for $31,008 here in SoCal. We originally plan on getting the Prius Three with almost the same package for 27,000 but the difference in the monthly is around 30. A lot of buyers are asking for the Prius so it's hard to negotiate for a discount. Dealer is in Valencia. We basically bought it sticker price.
For all those posting prices (thank you btw!), is that your out the door price? or tax and other fees tacked on to that? Thx
I waited and waited and waited and I finally bought. In the end Dianne will offer you the best price you will find. I would imagine 2011's will go down a little but more as 2012s come out- which rumor has it may not be til Feb. Obviously it was insane to pay $5,000 over sticker, $1000 over sticker or even sticker- but some people are morons- I guess. But I waited. Will the car be back down to $22,000 or less? Maybe. I was hoping for around there- but Dianne gave me such a great deal on her then advertised $22,988 (plus $100 gas card) and my trade in that I pulled the trigger. I can't see them going back up to MSRP with the new models coming out soon. So hold tight- find a price you like and go for it. I would imagine after Sept 6th you may see some incentives from Toyota- maybe lower rate or $500 back? If I could have- I would have waited another month or 2 as prices continue to decline but I needed a new car and my 2.78 from my bank ended in August- so had to go for it. 2012 will all have backup cameras and possibly better seats- it will be a mid cycle upgrade- I'd imagine price will come up as well? But since they are upgrading some things like the radio/screen- I would wait to see what 2012 offers and for how much. And as soon as it is out- make up your mind that day and buy a 2011 cheaper or the new 2012.
Just found this: expect some deals! Toyota Prius sales fell 20% Toyota US Sales Fell 13% In August On Broad Declines - WSJ.com
Thanks for the article mike. I can't wait to read it. I don't have a trade in, so the entire savings has to come from the new car itself.
Just pulled the trigger on Prius 3 basic package with mats- just below 23500. Hope we did ok in North Cal.
Basically the article- which was available in full when I posted- says Prius went down 20% in sales in August. Which has now opened the door to competition like Hyundai and Ford. Toyota needs to so something to get back on top. even Rav 4 was way down. Partially due to earthquake - but they gotta start moving product again. I'd expect some great deals after Sept 6th. I'm almost scared to see incentives I couldn't wait for.
Hi Mike, Don't be too scared! Dianne's special on a II went back up to 23k! I'm almost tempted to put off the whole process until February. Maybe even buy a really cheap, really used car to get me thru these next few months and see what the 2012s have to offer. Oh sigh!
If you can get away with waiting- I would see what the 2012s bring. http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-iii...xclusive-2012-my-prius-changes-additions.html Love my car- although I will say- the seat isn't the best and the radio is really hard to read in the light. I'm wondering if those will be changed with this new screen in the 2012s
Thanks Mike. The screen will have to change if they add backup camera. I just hope I don't give up waiting and go with a totally different car!
FYI / PSA : Ok, so I just called Toyota re the rebates. Some areas offer $0 rebate, others like Northen Calif offer $500, others a $1000.00 on the Prius. Just FYI for people looking in neighboring regions. He said local dealers can possibly work with Toyota to get the incentive honored in their area.
Care to elaborate on which part? Because I just punched in zip for baltimore, LA, and SF, and I see different rebates. Called Toyota 800 and they confirmed.
this part is utter nonsense He said local dealers can possibly work with Toyota to get the incentive honored in their area.
