My whole beef about people complaining about their nav systems taking them the long way, or whatever-if you know it's the long way, you obviously didn't need to use the nav in the first place. Many people complain because it doesn't take them on the route they expect. Any time I've needed to get somewhere that I didn't know the route, I got there, and back. That's why I bought it.

+1. Although I will say, it's interesting to find new routes around your own city.

The Prius sitting in our garage for the last month has Version 11.1.
Wish I could say what the differences are with this version, but since I'm new to Prius, from a 2007 Lexus RX350, the only thing I can say is I wish this Toyota product's NAV system was a clear as the Lexus.
Is it possible to use a DVD version from a Lexus in the Prius? I know the startup logo would be wrong, but shouldn't it work?
Other than that, FWIW, I would be totally lost in the city without a NAV system telling me where to go. So far it's worked great.
Is it possible to disable the traffic lines, arrows, and 3 car displays on the screen? I'm a little funny with a clean display, especially when it comes to items I don't use.

Ciaoboy, I think you can "cleanup" the nav screen a little by going into Navi Setup and then Detail Navi Settings. In that menu, select the "Off" function - that controls what is visible on the screen during normal driving. It is possible to pretty much have a clean screen if you elect to remove all of the data overlays in the Off menu.
    Hope this helps.

The traffic arrows will be under the General Settings. Something like "Always show traffic" instead of just under route guidance.

My mom just got a new Lexus Hybrid. I checked the version of her DVD and its 11.1. Is there just one standard DVD for all cars? I want to pop that thing in my Prius and see if it fires up but I dont want to screw it up at the same time.

Question - if you upgrade DVD's, do you lose all of your MAP data: setup parameters, preset destinations, etc.?

Does the disc stay in the system or do you download it and eject it?
Just thinking we could share, but I assume that doesn't work.

You can "use" the system while driving, you just can't type in a destination while the vehicle is traveling above a few MPH. Think it's the same a before. With the Shanda-free, voice recognition feature, you can tell the NAV what to do, with limits... "go home" "show icons" etc.

The disc stays in and works like a DVD movie. Mr. Dealer said the discs have a copyright protection built into them, so forget about a free copy.

You get the DVD. It's a couple hundred dollars, and you probably won't notice a difference if your current version is fairly new.

I'd love a copy and I'd be willing to pay for time/shipping/etc of course. If I can't get that I'll just have to be happy with the old version because I'm not spending that kind of money on a disc. That must be a great money maker for Toyota!

Even if I had the ability and inclination to make an "ILLEGAL" copy ... I sure would not advertise the fact on PC. Harder to pleasd "not guilty" later.

Toyota contracts out the software. Somewhere I read that little overall difference can be found from one version to the follow-along version, but updating every other version made more sense.

Personally, I have no objection with the NAV system in my G3 ... but I am not satisfied with the software.

Making a backup is legal as long as you're not distributing it to other people.
