I haven't had the coolant pump replaced on my 2005 yet, but I've been keeping an eye on it.

Today I made a routine inspection of the oil and fluid levels, and lately I've been including a visual check for turbulence/flow in the inverter coolant reservoir as part of my inspection. So I picked up on the dead coolant pump pretty quickly. At my last inspection a few weeks ago there was good flow and now there's none.

Well it looks like I should have had it replaced sooner, but I think I was probably lucky enough to catch it nice and early. There have been no warning lights or even performance issues so far and the weather is still fairly mild here at the moment.

Looks like I'll have to head off to the dealers on Monday and see if I can get them to replace it under the recall.

I am sure your Prius is fine. Mine went out while pulling out of the parking lot one eve at work. I parked it and called AAA. No muss, no fuss. Though that was under my own dime a little over two years ago. I am thinking of taking mine in under the current Campaign since my VIN still pops up on the Toyota site. I guess the one I purchased in 2009 was the old style pump, not the new replacement. Who knows.

You mean it overheated just pulling out of a parking lot.

I thought it took a bit of sustained driving in hot weather before the inverter overheated due to lack of coolant flow?

I'm not exactly when mine stopped pumping because there have been no warning lights, it might have been yesterday, it might have been three weeks ago.

I think you will get this under wty. watch the sneeky dealer tech doesnt just clamp the coolant lines durring replacement. your ment to drain and replace/bleed the coolant.

Yeah I hope I can get it fixed under the recall or wty. Do you know if any others have had it done under recall in Australia. We didn't get a recall notice and I cant find any mention of the recall on Toyota's Australian site. Seems pretty slack.

uart, are you the second owner of the vehicle. recall notice's here in OZ only require the current owner, media outlets to be notifyed. if your not on toyota AU's list,no letter in the mail for you.
ill see if i can dig up the recall info.

Thanks Drew. Yep it's seconds owner, but it was a Toyota certified used vehicle from a dealer. (Apparently it was traded-in on a Gen3).

Went to the dealer today and they confirmed that it's under recall. :)

So it's booked in to get replaced, only problem is they can't do it for two weeks, not until Oct 24. Looks like it wont get driven much for the next two weeks. :(

One thing you can try: bleed the air out of inverter pump system, it is a 15 minute job. 13.5 min to gather the tools and bleed hose and 1.5 min. to do the job. Plenty of descriptions on PC. IF: it really isn't pumping, you will be all right as long as you don't stress the driving. :cheer2:

You can get a refund on the pump you bought, they can tell you if it is old or new style. If old style you are still entitled to a free inverter pump replacement at Toyotas expense. In any case they will be checking the pump that is on the car now.

Toyota wty works a little different here down under. toyota will replace the pump and coolant if in range for recall only. they may give you goodwill wty though.
