Does anybody know why the GPS system in my 2010 Prius is only showing me the states of California and Nevada? I'm moving to Texas, and I need this GPS to guide me from California to Texas.

At the very least, I need it to switch to the state of Texas after I find my own way to Texas. But there's not even a way to switch regions on this thing! I spent an hour in my Prius tonight, trying to figure out how to change regions… no way to do it... there's not even any instructions in any of the 3 user manuals. What a piece of crap. I can't believe I'm going to have to use my iPhone to get me cross-country. And I *still* don't know how to change regions!

Wow, thanks for nothing, Toyota. You would think that a $30,000 purchase would get me a functional navigation system across the entire USA, or at least give me a way to change regions.

Can anybody please help me get this GPS to show me the entire United States, or at least show me Texas? I don't even care about it getting me cross-country anymore... I just care about switching it to Texas at this point.

I've always thought that this GPS system in the 2010 Prius was a complete piece of garbage because of its dozens of problems and complete NON-intuitiveness, but this problem is now the icing on the cake. Toyota is no Apple, that's for sure. They don't know the first thing about human interface design. Someone needs to shake those people up over there at Toyota... they're clearly just phoning it in these days.

Or maybe Apple should just buy Toyota and teach those people how to do things right.

    Thanks,
    Scott

I've switched regions w/o issue on my 2nd gen's nav system. I don't have the manual in front of me and can't tell you if the procedure will work for you anyway.

How about using the voice command address and then just saying the state, city, street name, etc.?

edit: How about http://www.toyota.com/t3Portal/document/omnav/OM47605U/pdf/02.pdf on page 50? I found them all at http://www.toyota.com/owners/apps/manuals/navigation-manuals-search.do?search=true#. I got it from http://www.toyota.com/owners/apps/navigation-manuals.do and found it after opening 3-4 PDFs.

I haven't found the nav system on my 2nd gen Prius to be that bad. It has fewer features than the 3rd gen (like not traffic data). IIRC, the UI is very similar but unfortunately the 3rd gen's LCD resolution went down and looks grainy. Yes, some of the labeling of buttons isn't the most logical/intuitive.

FWIW, I linked to my opinions of my 06's nav system vs. my Garmin Nuvi 350 at http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-ii-...89-prius-gps-navigation-sucks.html#post679134.

It can be done, I've done it a couple of times — I don't remember exactly how but approximately:Edit: this is incorrect... Skip the red and move on: go into settings/nav/region and select the group of states that contains your destination. Now your destination will be found (if it exists on the DVD) and the GPS will map your route correctly, including you current loacation and any states that weren't selected.

I believe that the region setting is only used to determine which states are searched when setting a destination, not which states will allow directions as you drive through them.

Sorry Scotty321, I don't have much time to look this up but it defititely can be done. Hopefully someone here can check it out.

I had a dead battery and the region got re-set and all of my destinations were going to detroit area.... I finally figured it out. I am sure it's in the manual but since I train in to work, won't be getting to look for this for a while...

Here is a video, in the section where the search for city down at bottom is a button for search area. (1st minute of 7 minute video).

Click that set area button and you should be able to change area.

    Hope that helps...

When you are searching for a place, there is a button at the bottom of the screen that you have to press to change the "region". There are 9? of them, and they cover different areas. At least, I'm pretty sure that's where it is in the processing of searching for a destination. I can guarantee it's in one of those steps when you're trying to get your destination, and it's before you actually start typing for it, I think.

Checked on the way to work and what I said is incorrect... What wick1ert says sounds very familiar... Will take a look later if nobody beats me to it.

^^ glad to help! I was so frustrated and getting angry the first time I had to do that. It took like 30 minutes to find it, and the other people in the car were frustrated and laughing at me lol
