Also, the Optima Hybrid does 0-60mph in 9.2 seconds, while the new Camry Hybrid does it in 7.6 secs (8.4 secs with the original 187hp TCH). Makes one wonder where all that extra horsepower went.

Check the weight (or the gearing). That may have something to do with it.

I guess this poster never bother to watch the video of the Sonata Hybrid which has the same hybrid as the Kia Optima Hybrid.

Hello! Doesn't anyone listen, many recalls on the hybrid system. It's new technology, invented by Kia & company. It's untested & unproven. Great warranty, but do you want to spend more time in the shop than driving the car? :(

Superiority of E-CVT over step gear transmission. The sound of being in the optimal gear is not CVT "drone". That's the sound of staying in peak power.

TCH is about 50 lbs lighter.

They managed to get a world record because they created a new category for it. They only had to get 4.5l/100km to have the world record granted. Who will be the first to do it with a Prius? I bet they can achieve 3.0l/100km pretty easily...

The Prius is the king of the city but hypermilers can do better in other cars on the highway. So, a Prius could beat it, but it'd likely take longer.

Also note that the record is minimum fuel consumption rather than maximum fuel economy. So you can't take a longer, slower route unless you can make up for the longer distance in significantly better fuel economy.

Doesn't the TCH also have a more powerful traction motor? More torque at 0 rpm is a big advantage when starting from a stop.

Yes, TCH's electric motor has more torque but KOH has torque multiplier (1st gear). TCH never shift gear and stays in a single ratio.

When your kid borrows the car, or when you're driving it? ;)
