We had an unusual experience after jumpstarting our 2008 for the first time. "Someone" left a door ajar or the car on all night. After successfully jumpstarting the car and driving for a few minutes, the driver's side window would not go up and stay. It drops down about 3 inches after closing. After driving a 30 min, the car starts fine and seems to drive ok. But the window won't stay up! Dealer is looking at it now, but thought I would check-in with you guys here. Thanks.
This is a normal issue when you disconnect the 12V battery. You must have drained the battery enough to have lost the window auto feature. IIRC, just raise the window until it stops at the top and hold for about 3 seconds. Do the same on the way down. This will "retrain" the auto window feature.
You just need to do the power window reset. It always happens when 12V power is removed. Roll the window down halfway, then roll the window up all the way and hold the switch in the up position for an extra few seconds. In addition to having the windows reprogrammed, you might want to consider replacing the 12V. You generally get once chance to save it, via full charge on a charger. Many of us like the Optima battery, which can be drained and charged several times. See the banner ads running right now for purchase info.
Thanks to both of you for your help! I was worried when I saw how easily it is to reset the windows. And, honestly, I looked in the Owner's Manual but did not find this solution... Good news is the dealer (known to us to sell more services than necessary or requested) recharged the battery and reset the window at no charge. However, the dealer did also offered to install a new battery for about 350. They didn't -or couldn't- clarify the lifespan of the battery. If we can only get one chance on recharging the battery, we'll have to look into the Optima. Though I hesitate to spending the day changing it out. I'll look through the Forum to see what info there is on this task... Again, many thanks!
obviously when you lose power in the vehicle, all the memorized settings go away as their computers didnt have power.
Thank you so much for sharing - just replaced my brake pads and had disconnected the 12V battery to be safe. When we reconnected it, auto window feature didn't work. This fixed it!
