No Lane Keep Assist (LKA) or Advanced Parking Guidance System (APGS) on Plug-In Prius?

In looking through the specs on Toyota's website I noticed the 2012 prius plug-in advanced has the Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC), but didn't see any mention of the Lane Keep Assist (LKA) or Advanced Parking Guidance System (APGS). So it's not going to have these features?

I also read that they're removing the Advanced Parking Guidance System (APGS) feature on all the 2012 Prii, any idea why they're doing that? Was there problems with it, i.e. backing into other cars? So, are they also eliminating the Lane Keep Assist (LKA) for all new Prii as well?

What's going on, don't they usually add features on new models, rather then take them away?

There is NO LKA or APGS available on the Plug In Prius.

After looking at customer feedback they make changes... The parking assist was not really something people were fond of. I surely didn't use it. The LKA I did like but having a HUD (which CAN be found on the Plug In Prius advanced) is something I would use everyday compared to LKA which was now.

And no, they are not getting rid of LKA for all Prius. The Prius 5 with ATP still gets LKA, only the Plug In Prius will not get it. My guess for that is probably weight issues, they wanted to keep it down...

Yea, the HUD is pretty cool and the Plug In also has the remote A/C which you couldn't get on the 5, but I just want it all, why can't I just get all the cool stuff packed into one car. :D

Simple answer is always weight and cost to manufacture. I agree, i wanted the solar roof on my 2010 but in the end we must deal with the packages they decide to give us. For 2012 I must say I am quite pleased this time around with the equipment included with with each package this time around.

IMHO, good riddance to both. Parking is useless and LKA is fussy and more hassle than its worth. They obviously cut both in order to hit a price point. HUD seems likely to be far more useful. Anyone doubt they are going to make a profit on Prius now? ;)

Whoa, really, "useless", you mean it doesn't work right or you just like to parallel park yourself?

So, LKA is not just push the button and let go of the wheel and take a nap? :D

LKA "beeps" at you, if you are in cruise control, then it nudges the wheel left or right to try to put you back in your lane. If you remove your hands from the wheel, it doesn't work at all.

Its pretty useless, I have it, trust me.

the IPA? also useless, I can park faster and more accuratley manually.

LKA wouldn't work well here anyway. Snow & Ice are bad enough sensor challenges. But combine that with road bleeching caused by salting, even seeing lines in the road with human eyes is difficult.

APGS doesn't have any value for those who live in the suburbs, rarely ever encountering a situation where parallel parking is even needed. It makes it easy to imagine how a so infrequently used feature would be somewhat of a hassle remember.

I find the decision to not include either a good one for keeping price in check.

Exactly John, At a ~$7.5k premium over the base Plug-in (which is already well-equipped), adding additional features would have just widened that price gap even further. Weight was the other concern.

i have to admit APGS is pretty much useless to me (cool to show off to people though), but LKA has been awesome for me for longer cruises on the highway. the effect of it is subtle but helpful. not sure if i would be ok with no LKA on the high-end prius if i was considering it but i could probably live with that.

The parallel parking works, but any sentient human can park a car faster and easier. The back in parking flat out doesn't work, or at least not well enough to claim it does.

The LKA is beeping all the time as it goes in and out. Even if you had perfect stripes all the time, it's still annoying, because you have to hold it just so. Too much and you are fighting it, too little and it stops working or wanders too much. I guess it kind of works indirectly, because it forces you to pay more attention and you can never just relax like you can if you just turn it off. It is more tiresome than helpful, IMHO.

Noooo... really. Dam I was imagining that they were like the coolest things ever. I mean I can nail parallel parking sometimes, but some times I really screw it up. Will it squeeze itself into a really tight spot?

And I imagined the LKA as the best sleep driving tool, does it work at night?

No, it needs a huge space, more than the average driver would need. I feel like I've heard something like 6 feet in addition to the length of the car, but I don't know for sure.

Yes. I use it a lot on highway driving; I find it reduces the effort I need to steer - for example, in a long curve, the car will hold the steering constant, so I don't have to do any effort other than to correct the steering angle a bit every now and then. But it does make the steering feel a little funny, so my wife doesn't like it. But when we're together, I pretty much always usurp the driver's seat, so...

Depends how tight a spot. I have had it park in one that was just a foot or two longer on either end. I was pretty amazed but no it will not rock you back and forth in the parking spot. Like most people here, I found it to be more of a cool toy to show people and occasionally when I don't feel like parking in the morning at work (back-in mode).
