I hear yea. I'm just disappointed because I did not expect to pay 39.5k. Regardless of any tax credit(which is really only worth .30 cents on the dollar on your return). If I can get a 2012 level v for around 32k I would be much happier. I think the plug-in is over priced.

 

^^ You are confusing tax deduction with tax credit.

Sure, some people will prefer to spend the last $5k on stuff the Prius level 5 has and the plug-in does not, while others will prefer the opposite. Luckily, each kind of car exists.

 

I t'snot so much the weight of the wheel. It's the width and design of the tire that kills mpg.

 

My F-up.. I always thought the credit was deducted. thanks for the schooling. Will O'bama really send a check for the 2.5k? I guess I was really expecting a level 5 plug-in.

No worries. Yes, a $2,500 check in the mail -- actually, you just pay $2500 less taxes.
President Obama does not send you anything. The $2500 is paid out of the general fund -- you can think of it as the taxpayer base.

There are caveats though: You have to start with a $2500 tax liability for the year (not difficult for most people!), and at least one person in this forum who seems to know tax stuff better than most says that some/all of the credit might be lost if you have other competing tax credits or fall into AMT range.

I am skeptical that people will find they are not eligible for the full credit, but I am not a CPA.

 

Wrong. AMT doesn't affect EV/PHEV tax credit.

 

Am I reading too much into this or the base Plug-In is nicely equipped with the same exterior, except for LED Headlamps and Fog lamps? Am I missing something!Please comment!
I was set for a Prius Plug-In Five, but after reviewing the standard equipments on the base plug-in, the only 2 other options I would like to have on the base car are: HUD & Fog Lamps!

wow....7k extra for those things...i was hoping for a mid level version here...i'm not going to be able to purchase until around 2013-2014 anyway.....so hopefully there is a 35k version around that time....I know they can't make a model for everyone, but seems like there is a large difference in price between their well equipped (almost too much so for those just wanted efficiency) base model and the advanced

 

My guess would be they had to go to 62 mph so that EPA would be able to get a highway rating for PIP.

Weight? They added power seats, I bet those two motors and lumbar pump weigh more than the plastic sunroof and single motor. Rims, well I could care less about that because people can change them easily. Thanks for the reply.-Glenn

 

You're confusing tax credit with tax deduction. Tax credit is worth its full value, unlike tax deduction, which is what you were talking about.

It took me a few hours to decide that I'm getting off the list. The money was already in the bank but I decided not to settle for one of the crappy colors (my opinion) and I'm a little dismayed at the loss of a sunroof issue.
I will hang on to my Gen II in hopes that Toyota gets serious color pallate and offers a sunroof instead of the 8 way power seat. 110 volt power output will likely be added to later production runs as they already have in Japan.
