And for certain headlight heights in the U.S. it looks like. I used to drive a 4x4 pickup so that must be where I had the 4" drop in my head from. Now I know why my headlights in my car don't seem to shine out quite as far as they should. Thanks for the links! :)

Use TRSLD10 to get 10% off at TRS for Labor Day. They posted the code on facebook.

NP. :) I agree with trucks you should lower them more to keep from blinding people.

Please let me know if it does. I'm praying I can get the cover to close with the FX-Rs.

I decided against the FX-R projectors and instead started installing the Mini H1 projectors. I'm also replacing my headlight assemblies with ones from the 2006+ Prius. They fit just fine but I found out that the D2S ballast is larger than the D4R ballast so my oem ballast won't fit in the housing. :( Thankfully I had the 55w DDM kit still installed so I'll just use that.

There has been some discussion about using 55w ballasts in these Mini projectors. The fear is that the extra heat will bake the projector bowls and ruin them. I've been running the DDM 55w ballast since last spring and upon inspecting them today they still look brand new!

Ok, so the ballast mounting size under the headlight housing is the only difference then. Will any aftermarket 35w ballast fit in there or does it have to be the slim ones? I have no idea the dimension of 04-05 OEM ballast size.

My DDM slim ballast would fit in there but my headlights didn't come with the cover for the ballast so I just taped it over with duct tape for now. I will eventually get a cover from a salvage yard. I took everything apart so I'm at the point of no return and I need my headlights to go to work tomorrow. :)

I'm baking the second headlight right now.

So yes, the only difference between the 2004-2005 headlights and the 200-2009 is the ballast hole. Well and cosmetics obviously.

Ok so flareak is gonna kill me.

I went out to test the new mini H1 and get them aimed properly. They are much brighter than the D2S! They also have much more blue at the cutoff. I'm using DDM 55w ballasts (closer to 45w) and the Morimoto XB35 5000k bulbs.

    That's all I need to know :)

BTW my XB35 does not look like Philips rebased bulbs at all..

What do you mean? Output or the physical bulb?

I am sure pics will follow. :)

The cutoff color is great for MH1 but I actually like the slope angle of D2S cutoff.

I didn't have much time to play with aiming or getting pictures last night. As always it was well past my bed time when I finally put the car back together. They were a little bit harder to aim/align and the cutoff was a bit more hazy the further you get from the step slope but so far they don't seem much different than the D2S with regards to aiming.

I did notice that driving through the neighborhood that the cutoff is MUCH more visible. I could easily see the cutoff steps imposed on houses and cars and there was a lot of blue which the D2S almost never showed. So far I'm pretty happy but I'll do a bit more driving tonight before I form a solid opinion. I'll try and get pictures too. :)

The physical bulb. I compare the XB35 with my DDM kit bulb. The quality is similar.
There is a post on HIDPlanet on how to identify fake Philips bulbs. And based on that post the XB 35 is def fake.

TRS doesn't claim they are Phillips bulbs though. They are labeled as Morimoto.

Here are some crummy pics (cell phone) of the new headlights. Kinda weird seeing 2006-2009 headlights on a 2005 with no side badges (hybrid). :)

I agree. This is the closest we can get to an OEM bulb. :( I think Matt is looking into making the D2S bulbs work in the H1 projector. :D
