I bought my 2010 last month used with 17,000 miles on it. So far I've gotten total 56 mpg (2300 miles.) This tank so far (250 mi) I'm getting 64 mpg.

I think I could do better, but my commute has a killer hill in the middle of it, and that seems to put a real dent in my mileage.

Pretty happy with this car so far! Ask me again in the winter...

I do have a 2010, and really enjoy it and the challenge to not use gas! I have averaged between 52 to 57 mpg fir the last two months. I hpincresed the air pressure in the tires, adpnd bought a scan gauge. Also, for the bad backs in the group, I installed 2inch foam in the leather seat additions the dealer put on before I bought it. Now the comfort is pretty darn perfect.

I get between 52 and 57, mostly 57. I use the Eco mode, ingle ate the tires to 46/44, and have a scan that really helps. This fill up I ave 62mpg. I track between 62 to 75 mph, so I'm not a turtle on the road. I think the car is amazing! For the bad backs in the group, I added some 2" foam to help the comfort, and what a difference!

    Hope this helps!

Is the gas you are using
    10% Ethanol Blend?

    I have a 2011 Prius.

I notice the digital read out is inaccurate by 1.5 to 2 miles per gallon.

    Last two fill-ups

Manually calculated 47.8 mpg for 464 miles. Used 9.73 gallons of gas.
Digital read out listed it as 49.3 mpg

Manually calculated 46.1 mpg for 472.6 miles. Used 10.24 gallons of gas.
Digital read out listed as 48.3 mpg

    75.2 MPG in ERROR?

Could there be a computer error?
I drive my 2011 Prius on the highway, set the cruise control @ 47 mph for the entire 44 mile distance and have gotten 75.2 MPG as Best MPG.

On other trips (same route & speed) I have gotten 68-70 mpg.

I'm starting to think that there is something wrong with car.
    Anyone?

Cruising at 47 MPH from my experience is a great speed for MPG. I don't doubt those numbers, though your calculated MPG will be a bit lower if those are HSI numbers. What about hills and temps?

I am a brand new 2011 Prius 4 owner- have had it one week so not close to being broken in yet. Consumption shows 58mpg so far. I realize from others feedback that may be a couple of mpg higher than actual but excellent so far. I am using the techniques of pulse and glide as well as efficient braking to achieve this. Very pleased with the car-rides well, quiet, and very comfortable. Considering a Prius "C" next year based on the quality and performance of this one. The purchase was very easy and got a good out the door price.

Has anyone considered an early engine oil change (around 200 miles) to minimize wear from initial engine break-in?

I don't think anything is wrong with the car. You just need to be more aware of trip conditions. Wind direction and speed are often ignored yet play a significant role in FE.

Might try to set up an alternate stat line for L.A.=Orange county. The driving conditions here are unique. I'm thinking the numbers would be lower.

After 13 months, and almost 27,000 miles I have an overall average of 50.6 mpg.

I averaged all of the fillups from Sept/Oct 2010 with Sept/Oct 2011 and found that my average for this year was about 2 mpg better than the first year. (52.4 mpg in 2010 vs. 54.5 mpg in 2011) I attribute this to "learning the ropes" of efficient driving.

The other thing I noticed was that in 2010 my mileage nosedived almost immediately into the upper 40's after the installation of winter tires (Bridgestone Blizzak WS60). I had them mounted again last week, but this year I raised the tire pressure to 40 psi, instead of 30 psi. So far my mileage has remained around 52 mpg for the two fillups since I mounted the Blizzaks. I am attributing this to the higher tire pressure compared with last year.

Freezing temps are back, so I've dipped down into the mid 40's again. Last winter was closer to 40 all season, hoping now that the car is broken in I'll up that a bit.

When I picked up this 2011 Prius Three rental this morning, the tripmeter A read ....

45 miles and average of 41 MPG

After I gassed it up, reset tripmeters, I drove 22 miles and ended up at 58.3 MPG on gage. It will stay about that from here on out. This was all in Power Mode and I drive with the flow of traffic. I've rented 3rd gens a dozen times, all about 55 mpg or more. The only one just over 50 mpg was a Prius Five with the 17" wheels.

The tires were all low when picked up. These tires tend to lose air a good bit, a lot more air lost than with my Accord tires. So check Prius tires once a week. It's a little hard to unscrew the valve stem caps with the plastic hubcaps in the way.
