I got a letter from the dealership saying they desperately needed 2010 Prii and would buy mine back at top dollar. It is currently in the bottom of the trash can because if I sold my Prius I would then have to get another one so that won't happen. Anyone else get one of these?
Yes. If they're that despirate to get their hands on an ex cab (assuming they know) then times must be hard. They must be trying to sell new ones or meet quarterly dealer sales targets. I'm holding out for a Prius PHEV next year though - unless it's overpriced.
My classic standard mailing is that I could replace my current Prius with a new 2011 Prius for a great price! Of course: - The 2011 is unchanged from the 2010. Why would I want to change? - I paid cash for my current Prius, why would I want to lease another one? - They're quoting a 12kmi/yr lease to me, despite the fact that the estimate on the mailing (correctly) estimates that I do 20kmi/yr. Throw those mailings into your recycling bin (or shred it first if you want to be more cautious).
suddenly I feel left out... perhaps my dealer has more common sense?? they only send me offers for oil change, despite me buying oil filters from them
Got one too. My dealer says I can upgrade to the same car and level, in a 2011 for only $10,300 more? Ha! They also have GenIII level I trim 2010's used with 35 thousand miles on them for $23,500. That's a bigger crock of ____, since they went for far less new.
dealers send those crap letters out no matter what you own, it isn't specific to the Prius. The idea is to have you come in and trade your existing car in on a new car; where by they make money from your new car and from selling your old car. It is a win win for them.
Yea, get these all the time, including one's telling me how desperately they need my 2001 Saturn wagon. Thing's worth about $40, but some dealership in San Diego is always "desperate" for it.
So, they are essentially telling you your 2010 Prius depreciated $10,300 in the first year? What kind of message is that sending? I paid $23,500 (or there abouts) for my III w/Nav a year ago, why would I go in debt for nearly half what I paid for it just to purchase the same vehicle again? Going off their reasoning, a year from now, I'd have the same car I do now, but would have paid $33,800 for it, but it would be worth only $13,200! Did these guys sleep through basic economics in high school? Or maybe they hope the rest of us did!
i got one but "top dollar" seemed to come in somewhere near "middle dollar". now i have early 2010 with very inaccurate MPG gauge but still has low mileage (Thanks to my LEAF!!) since its whole life, its only recently become a daily driver with arrival of Leaf. (it used to be 2nd car after my Zenn) i thought about it, but then would have to replace it and might have if the plug in Pri was out, but its not so was not an option for me
It's pretty simple. Buy Back offers are dealerships fishing. Every dealership in existence is going to say they will give you Top Dollar for your trade in...or greatest value. It's up to the consumer to know the value of their vehicle and judge for themselves the wisdom or prudence of making any deal. However, on a newer vehicle, the fact or "fake fact" that a dealership would offer me "Top Dollar" for my vehicle in trade certainly wouldn't be a reason I would trade it in... The only reason I would trade my vehicle in, is if I no longer wanted it, or wanted something else more... If that isn't the case? Don't bite on the lure....
