If Toyota does this similar to how Nissan did (but with no website problems !) - what matters is the Toyota list. If they go the GM route - dealer's list is important (ofcourse, GM didn't have a centralized priority list at all).

I would not believe anything dealers say right now since they don't have any information yet. I think once the car is ordered directly from the Toyota's website, the only contact with the dealer is when the car hits their lot.

I think one would have to buy the car through a dealer (and negotiate the price with the dealer). Many states have laws against the manufacturer selling directly.

Talk about rigging the rules to benefit the dealers. A prime example of our "free market".

Well, I'm very interested to see how this all jibes with the deposit that I laid on the local dealer, a couple of years ago now, for the first plug-in he receives. At that time he told me that there was a 'list' of folks who had left a deposit. I've not heard a word from him yet. BTW, we bought our current G3 from a different dealer so it's not like we have any previous sales history; we shall see...

A few weeks ago, I read here the number who signed up for the Plug-In was over 29,000 people.
I wonder how many of those signed up will actually buy a Plug-In. Also, wonder how many Plug-Ins Toyota will build in 2012. I'm waiting on the trims, options, and price of the Plug-In. I read here in the forum where there were only going to be two trim levels for the Plug-In.

When I followed this link I got the general screen about registering interest in Toyota, not even an acknowlegement that I had resistered to place an order. With zero communication from Toyota since I registered on the first day the link was open I haven't heard squat. I'm begining to think Toyota doesn't want me to own another of their cars.

Yes, pre-registering for the 2012 PHEV is closed, what else do you expect? If you chose your dealer, thats really about all you could do before anyway. They are probably working on setting up the "pre-ordering" website at this point for the people that have signed up, and I'm sure thats the next email we'll get.

Only those who didn't pick a dealer were sent emails after signing up. I imagine Toyota will send something out after the official intro next month.

Hugh? Maybe some who didn't pick a dealer were sent emails - but not all. We're waiting to see what dealers will offer us before we pick. Thus, we haven't picked a dealer . . . and we got no email.

At the very least people who signed up on the plug in list should be able to sign into their Toyota account that was created when they signed up. That would confirm one is on the list. It's a little odd that some have received emails and some haven't. I have been told that picking a dealer on the list is part of the equation that toyota will use when it comes to how many plug in Prii a dealer will receive!

I also know to stay on the list one will have put a $500 deposit down at a dealer rather than at toyota so sooner or later one has to choose a dealer.

Since 10 November is when the first orders will be accepted according to this website, we may not be able to know the trims and prices until close to that date.

I did not pick a dealer when I registered and I received an email last week asking me to pick one. So I log back into the site and selected the dealer. I also checked the box for the dealer to contact me via email when more info becomes available.
