Then please tell me where India, Pakistan, Hong Kong, South Africa are taking orders from London, etc., etc?

Then all these unsubstantiated stories about missionaries - they way you and Stev0 tell it, there might be some skepticism. ;)

I would say that we're still seeing major repercussions of colonialism in the Middle East (since a lot of the dictatorships were outcomes of governments from former puppet regimes). Apart from the white English colonies, England's colonies in Asia and Africa seems to have kept other religions. I also think they rejected most "rulling" principles vs say Spanish, Portuguese, or Catholic attempts. I think that at some point soon, we'll see a Pope that is not from Europe and is from Latin America.

But another thing about culture is that it's double sided. One of my hobbies is homebrewing. I have relatives in Vienna, but they never tried a Vienna lager until I got them to try it here in the Americas. It was a style first originated by a very successful brewery in Vienna back in the 1840s. By the turn of the 20th century, the brewery had been the largest brewery in Austria, but they closed because of a lack of investors. Up until the most recent years, the only breweries that were having classic examples of Vienna lager was actually in Mexico. There were several Austrian brewers that moved to Mexico and made it a popular style (Dos Equis and Negra Modelo being the largest examples).

So with this logic racism no longer exists after the freeing of the slaves or after the civil rights movement in the states? Because as soon as one event happens, that's the end of it.

People aren't fruit flies that have new generations every couple days. It takes a while for things to equalize.

What about refusing tsunami (india, not japan) victims food unless they convert to christianity?

^ Listening to some of you I'd think some "Evil Empire", 4th Reich, etc is a loose and some of you are under house arrest....you overstate it. It not a perfect world, but neither is it a world the 1st world is oppressing the 3rd world or something like that.

I can pull up plenty of stories of Christians both missionaries and laypeople persecuted and killed.

Essentially. Forced to live where weak minded individuals that believe in magic make rules for all to follow.

Most in the name of another god.

So first it was this never happens and you all are making it up. Now it exists but it happens to everyone so it is ok...

That was one story. If you have ever traveled outside to actual 3rd world countries you will hear stories like the above all the time. It is against the rules for them to do so, but it is a cheap and easy way to get more converts and really that scorecard is all that matters once they come back to their base camps to say how much holier they are than thou.

    The original source: http://in.news.yahoo.com/050116/139/2j1rp.html

Google that link and you will find the story copy/pasted in lots of places. (One of the reasons why people do that, because the original source sometimes cleans up their bytes)

I must be missing on the UN resolution to take police action on Christians for crimes against humanity and a boatload of them on trial in the Hague. Where does Amnesty International cite violations on freedom to worship? Many violations in the Americas? What about the Middle East, Iran, China, and N Korea?

Why don't they echo all the atrocities you and others are saying? Go ahead and reply with an unsubstantiated rant...if that's "winning" on a point - I wonder what losing is? ;)

I'm a bit confused here Chuck. Are you really trying to say with a straight face that Christian charity is not a proselytizing tool ? You should come to New Mexico, I'll take you to a local pueblo turned into a museum that shows in explicit detail the progression from free pueblo Indian to Christian slave.

By the way, has anybody else read James Michener's HAWAII ?

I didn't suggest putting all religious people on trial for crimes against humanity at the ICC, but I don't oppose the idea now that you mention it. And again you equate religion with Christianity... There are more religions than just one. I oppose all equally. Any logic based panel would find committing murder in the name of a magician to be a heinous crime. And you realize that most of the middle east (where Iran is...) is religious, and most of their laws against religion, stem from their own religion...

Again I don't care what you worship as long as it doesn't effect my life. This is different from the "I don't care what you do as long as you do what I want" that the LGTB community is objected to daily. Having two persons (gender, ideals, race, health, beauty and everything else "discriminatory" are 100% irrelevant) marry each-other does not negatively effect anyone. Having someone in power who believes that global warming is a myth and praying for rain is a solution IS a problem. That effects me and the rest of the populace in a negative way. I do not care if he believes that prayer is a solution and then also enacts actual legislation to curb the problem backed with scientific reason. But to completely justify lack of action with fairies is over the line.

On day 1 of the R-led house, they moved to abolish the still new legislation that greenhouse gasses were subject to regulation by the EPA under the Clean Air Act because clean air is not something we want apparently. The also dismantled the committee for energy independence and global warming, giving some of its duties to another panel. The guy who leads this panel says it is the greatest hoax by the scientific community and that he is sure that if there is a problem, god will figure it out without the need for human interaction...

If you think that magic makes everything better, therefore there is no need to better things yourself, then you are less likely to get off your duff and do something constructive and more likely to sit around and wait for rapture.

    Tiger blood.

^ you guys are dodging the original point and others you can't answer, then diverting the thread with a bunch of questions intended to stump my viewpoint - anyone can do that - anyone.

    Back to the original point

Wouldn't seem like a valid belief or religion appeal to both men and women and all races?

T Z Myers is somewhat at a loss that most atheists at least in the US are older white males. In most parts of the world dominated by people of color, the irreligious are a tiny minority... colonialism has ended quite sometime ago in those part of the world, so it's hard to say that accounts for that population being more religious...I'd say resentment of past colonial powers should have promoted secularism if anything.

Yes - there are a number of religions, however Christianity is singled out, therefore I respond to that. Anyone know of any PC threads picking apart the scriptures of the Hindus, Buddhists, Scientologists, etc?

Your original question has been answered before. In the US, white males are educated more. Realize that there is not even 1 full generation yet where black people were allowed to go to the same schools. This is recent history.

And the question of demographics and attitudes of those demographics plays into your second statement. The US is predominately bible-falvoured religion. Catholic, Christian, Protestant, Whatever-an all some flavour of the same thing. The PriusChat.com forums present mostly the american point of view.

Go to a Toyota Tundra forum hosted out of Saudi Arabia and your predominant theme will become evident. You can do this same experiment in your town provided it is big enough to have different class sections. Go to a good part of town and see if any of the cork-board advertisements are for things in the bad part of town. Now go to the bad part of town and see if any of the cork-board advertisements are for the good part of town. Likely you will find that people stick to their bubbles. So now if I go to the bad part of town and ask "What is the best restaurant in the city?" I will probably get a much different answer then if I asked in the good part of town.

So when your base is an american forum with christian members, they are less likely to spawn anti-christian threads. Athiests spawn anti-religious threads which then get turned into anti-christian threads because people only defend what they know (hopefully). So again on this forum, that is what it turns into.

Buddhism isn't a religion, it is what religion ought to be. A moral compass, a way to socialize and a tool for introspection. Scientology sounds crazy to many people. But it is just as sane as any other religion when you think about it. It is new, and will take time before it is more wildly accepted. Like I said, I dislike all religions equally. If you want to find a scientologist and let him loose in this thread, it would make no difference to me.

And here are some nice googly tidbits for you:

A quick peruse through this thread should alleviate any fears that the religious bashing is uni-directional: http://priuschat.com/forums/freds-house-pancakes/29685-can-you-prove-allah-not-one-true-god-3.html

Logic and fact always trump belief and myth.

I'm going to suggest it is because the artists version of God doesn't look like me, therefore that "God" can't possibly be real.....

Not to disagree with you, but a couple of typographical errors here are quite interesting. I think you meant to say 'widely accepted', but in this case, 'wildly' is also quite appropriate. And I would have worded "...just as sane as any other..." to read '...just as INsane...', but that's just me. :p

If only it were that easy. It works fairly well when people are taught logic and facts before they're exposed to religion. If people are taught beliefs and myths first, logic and facts are accepted only slowly, if at all. Ideally, we should learn HOW to think before we're taught anything about WHAT to think - one way or the other - about anything. Independent, thoughtful minds are far stronger and more adaptable.

lol, yep widely accepted is what I meant. God told me to do it! (disprove it if you don't believe me) :p

Very true. I was lucky enough to have 2 parents both from religious families who did not press religion into me because they happily shed their magic ties. They also both graduated top of their respective classes at one of the world's highest ranked universities. To me this helps solidify that education is the biggest fear of the religious. If you educate someone enough to where most everything has a rational explanation, there is very little that has no explanation. And it is easier to accept that the currently un-explainable will be explained given enough time and research, rather than offloading the responsibility to supernatural beings.

I remember one of my high school class field trips one of the students refused to believe that a mud fish exists. It was obviously faked just for the museum, fish dont walk. Things don't evolve... I couldn't believe he had never heard of a mud fish, but now that I am a bit older I realize not everyone is exposed to reality and has the yearnin' for learnin'.

I already showed that according to what you linked to, the population of non-believers by race isn't that much different from the population in the U.S. by race.

So I guess the answer to your question is "yes, and oh look, it does!"

^ P Z Myers does not seem to agree the ethnic profile of US atheists is as diverse as the general population, so I guess you have a bone with him.
