Prices are coming down FAST! Costco and AAA prices are being accepted once again. And TrueCar has come down more than $500 in the past few days. Lowest is now $23,794. It will be interesting to see if Toyota offers any incentives come August. All dealers I have talk to have a surplus of invoice for the first time in months.
I just got $700 off package II. Yes it seems prices are going down. About time. I wonder if I can get better than that. $1k?
Well, I stopped looking for a Prius cause I didn't like the gouging- but my Ford Focus hasn't been found yet so I may go back to the Prius if these prices get back to where they were.
Prices are coming down pretty fast. I keep getting emails from local dealers telling me they have a large inventory. So glad I waited. I'm looking for a III (three) with navigation. What is a realistic price? BTW, I'm still holding out for my old theory of waiting until Oct/Nov.
YOur best bet- look at truecar.com to get an idea of a good starting negotiation. I wish Toyota had an xplan like Ford does. At Ford if you work for the company you get to buy the car at slightly above invoice on the "XPlan" If you own stock you also get it. No haggle, just the invoice price- it's great.
I don't know what their selling price is. NOBODY is selling a Prius for anywhere close to invoice. I believe MSRP is about the best that can be done. Liberty has 7: 5 Twos & 2 Threes Holman has 13: They don't list models Lawrence has 18: 13 Twos, 2 Threes, 3 Fours Dayton has 2: They don't list models 40 cars, across 4 dealers & mostly low end models is a far cry from the inventory situation when they were selling at invoice. The current situation is much better than the recent past but still has a long way to go before it normalizes.
Thanks for the clarity Jim. I will wait another two months before giving up on the prius. Mike, thank you soooo much for that website. I love it!!!
Update on my New Prius Purchase: Thanks to everyone for their advice on purchasing. It seems that Prius prices in the bay area have come down dramatically in the past week. After waiting 3 months to purchase, I was able to purchase a new Prius Two for $23,600 which was $1100 under MSRP (equal to invoice price). I called a number of other dealers in the area and three of them were willing to match the price and several others just said it was a good price. So for everyone out there frustrated with Prius pricing, the inventories have finally built up and dealers are discounting again. I'm sure it will continue to get much cheaper, but once they hit invoice price, that was good enough that I didn't feel like I was getting ripped off. Good luck to everyone else out there trying. It was amazing how much prices have changed in the past week. Happy to be another Prius owner!
Regarding the hit Honda took, yep, see the link I posted at http://priuschat.com/forums/prius-h...t-down-plants-in-n-america-3.html#post1363924.
Mike, I didn't want to hijack Dianne's post, but if you don't mind what were the 2010 price level? I wasn't in the market back then and I know a friend got his for about 19/20k. Thx
l was quoted $4,000. off of a II last fall. don't expect to see that again but if the economy tanks it could get close although toyota has a much tighter rain on production now.
Wow. I will probably make the jump at 21.5k for a Prius 2. I think!!! I hate being rushed into making a decision. I've been watching the price go down over the last 1.5 months, so naturally I'm tempted to waited it out some more. Prices will balance out and remain stable before making jumps back up again. Right? fingers crossed!
Carolin- if you really wanted it cheap- wait til end of year deals. I hear 2012 comes out in February. So bit of a wait. My goals is around $22,000 as I need to get a car soon. Right now on truecar.com in LA area is $23,154 which includes the fees. So that's a pretty good deal. Getting close! I think September you'll see some factory incentives as well.
What fees does True Car include? (love that site btw, thx for the recommendation)and how much are these fees if I was to go to let's say Dianne and get her 23k deal that she has right now? Though I'm your valley neighbor and Carson is a bit far. Hamer Toyota has been coming in lower than anyone else.
Fees are $760 destination and $426 regional ad fee. You'll have to ask Dianne what her totals are with fees. How good is Carson doing? Maybe we should buy them from the same place together and demand a discount- ha.
Strength in numbers!!! We seriously should. Can you wait until at least early Oct or do you need to buy now? Carson/Dianne had it listed in her thread at 23k, actually $22,999! Hamer offered it to me for 23k when Dianne had hers listed at 23.5. Northridge Toyota is at the highest at the moment.
I have to get it soon. Been waiting way too long. My goal is to find it for 22,000 which seems in line with truecar. I almost want to wait to see what incentives are coming. If you wait til October you'll get it for under 22,000 I'd imagine.
