After market rims - To lower or not

    Thanks Mac. i will call around. I might do this now or later, depending on a bunch of factors... There is a wheel and tire place here that said they can do the install for me, but the one performance shop I called quoted me $700. I figured that roughly between $700 - $800 then.

    Ryan, I have not been able to find "very" LRR 18" tires. Did you?

    this car with 17s still looks like a 4wheeler! you have to lower to have it look right! Tanabe NF210s

    F8L I haven't. Still looking around.. Nothing from my rim and tire shop either.

    And see as much as I would like that dropped a little more I am ok with that, but def no higher.

    If you are sticking with 18s then my first suggestion is to look into the Continental ExtremeContact DWS (225/40/18). It is great tire for a low price and doesn't take as much of a MPG hit as some of the other 18" tires. They have a good warranty and treadlife. You loss a little bit of handling performance compared to other high end ultra high performance tires but you gain wet/snow traction. *shrug*

    Try to find a suspension specialist. They'll usually have the best prices. Wheel shops next. Tire places, if they do it, are the most expensive IME.

    I felt like posting 2 shots:

    #1-2Aftermarket wheels but not lowered

    #3 Lowered but on OEM wheels

    #4 Aftermarket wheels AND lowered

    The car in pic #3 is filthy. I put the OEMs back on the make sure nothing was wrong with the car as I was getting pretty bad MPG on the 17s. I think I'll swap back soon though. It's just plain ugly on the 15s. lol

    Yeah lowered def looks better.. What to do what to do. :) Never got a chance to talk to the shop.. but this coming week.. For some reason the stereo shop is taking their sweet time. Although the sub box does look good.

    I am a firm believer that the car must be lowered before putting aftermarket wheels.. I hate seeing cars with rims that are super duper high..

    I generally agree but there are people who want better looks and handling yet don't want a harsher ride and need the ground clearance. :)

    I think you can get away with not lowering with some aftermarket wheels, such as this 18"-wheel Prius. Most would look goofy and require lowering though.
