Air Ride Installed but need a shock kit

What kind of airbags did you put in? I didn't thing anybody sold them for 2004-2009.

 

I gotta see this in action....I would LOVE to slam my prius (altho I want air struts, not bags)

Does the shop have any suggestions for dampening the bounce? I don't think it is possible without additional modification.

 

UGC, That company claims they will provide 100% customer satisfaction on their website.

They mostly likely can alter the damping in the struts by swapping a few inexpensive internal parts. It would be worth while asking them unless you are dead set on adding extra shocks.

If you add shocks set up for a normal Prius, the new shocks plus your air struts combined might give more damping than you want.

 

how much were they if you don't mind me asking? and can you ask them if they'd be willing to fab up a COMPLETE set (front and back)? i am especially interested in the remote compressor

 

You might want to consider asking the shop that did the initial work about the feasibility of installing shock relocators, so that you can have shocks on both sides. There are special precautions to take as far as disconnecting the HV system/inverter if they have to do any welding (likely).

 

A gas shock reduces movement in both up and down directions, I'd suggest getting a new set of KYB shocks and a set of Tanabe or Eibach springs. Tanabe also make adjustable coilover shock kits for the prius.
The Eibach springs will erase any weigh carrying problems.

The air shocks are not going to work, an air bladder, cobbed on would be nice but so would wings.

It seems like any off the shelf product that improves weight carrying capacity also results in lower ride height.

 

There is a company in SO-Cal called Universal Air Suspension. They make a "universal" bag that goes over a coilover setup. Theoretically you can install coil overs on a Prius and put these bags on them to get a fully adjustable air suspension.



I have bagged several cars and while it is alot of fun to be able to lay your car on teh ground, the ride quality does suffer.

Here is a pic of my hobby car. At full drop, the frame is 1/4 inch off the ground. I am able to drive it fully dropped on smooth roads.

Nothing is going to ride exactly as stock. But yes those bags do just replace the coil spring on a coil over setup. Whats the size of the ones you already have and can you pose a pic? I have a buddy looking for something for the back of his 54 Chevy.

If you only want to be able to carry a bigger load, then just get some air shocks, they are less than $100 and can support up to 1100lbs. And when you dont need them, just let the air out and its basically stock again.

 

I haven't been able to find anything in anyone's catalog that works for the rear. Can you post a link to something that would work?

 

When I needed air shocks for both my F150 and my 51 Chevy I just went to pepboys and found a shock with the correct ends and that was about the same length. You arent going to find a Prius specific air shock, but if you can find one that will bolt in, it will do 95% of a direct application.
