Its in again, 4th time, to get the squeaks and rattles taken out. I'm really getting frustrated. I'm keeping my fingers crossed this time. I'll let you know how it goes.

Good afternoon. I am curious, as a fellow driver of a 2011 Model Three (no solar, though), as to what squeeks and rattles you are experiencing? Just curious, thanks.

I don't think dealership technicians get paid for this type of work. Please keep that in mind.

The squeaks and noises are coming mainly from the passenger front door and center console where the gear shift is. The rear drivers door buzzes intermittently and so does the roof. I have demonstrated this all for the dealer on more than one occasion.

As for the technicians. They who gets paid to fix this stuff? I guess it really doesn't matter to me who get paid to fix it as long as it gets fixed. I called Toyota and put in a case concerning the noises. They will call me back tomorrow. (we will see)

What does it matter who gets paid what to iron out squeaks and rattles in a car under warranty? If squeaks and rattles are coming from multiples places, they need to be silenced. I've got 6 months and 3k miles on this Accord and there is not one hint of a squeak or rattle anywhere.

My 2nd gen had a rattle that would occur sometimes on the dash, most of the time not. It was annoying when it occured. It is contact between two objects, often plastic on plastic. Hopefully pressing on the area makes it stop, then go in and insulate that area. PITA though.

The service manager has the balls to tell me that since the inside of the car is plastic then it squeaks. I said with that theory the metal parts should make metal noises. I asked him if he was on crack.

I just want Toyota to honor THEIR warranty. We will see.

FWIW, my 05 Excursion has no squeaks or rattle whatsoever.

Well here it is. After 2 day's they said it was fixed. THey had 2 service manager and the technician drive it and all was good. I get the key and ask to have the manager go with me on the test drive. Not out the parking lot and the noise is still there. WHen I ask why he say's that this is his first time in the car and he was unaware of the issue. So we take it back and I have him document on the repair order that the noise is still there.

This was the 4th time for the same repair. Now I think I'm going to try the resolution dispute process.

Katiesdad7, you should really contact Toyota's customer experience center. This is what I had to do when the dealerships were not treating me appropriately. They will get your issues resolved, and pressure the dealership to insure that it is done. Don't bother with the stealerships, call the experience center at 1-800-331-4331. The hours and more information are avaliable at this web page. Let me know how your experience turns out while dealing with the "higher up" guys.

I spoke to them and they contacted the dealership. But they said that they have no control over how the dealer fixes my car. She said that she will schedule a factory rep to look at it. We will see.

Over the years, I've had many cars both owned and company cars. They were all different brands and not one of them was free of rattles, buzzing, etc. Coming and going from summer to winter. Which would you rather have, a vehicle free of electrical & mechanical issues or a rattle or two? I keep my JBL sound system cranked up and spend less time at the dealer!

I agree the JBL makes them go away. But when I listen to talk radio the noise is really annoying. But the JBL is awesome!

Doesn't the documentation state that squeaks & rattles (& such) are not covered by the warranty? I wouldn't expect much (any) help from Toyota.

It states that "noise, vibration, cosmetic conditions and other deterioration caused by normal wear and tear" are not covered. IMO that has nothing to do with loose panels or defective workmanship of the interior. It would be reasonable to say that if the seat fabric on the drivers seat looks different from the rest after about a year that would be normal.

That's like saying that since I live in Florida that the sun may fade the paint after 3 month and it's normal wear and tear. I believe that Toyota went to great lengths to make a solid/noise free vehicle. That's reasonable. Plus you have to keep in mind that the roads we have here in Florida are "pristine". To mean we have no pot holes and torn up blacktop like up north. If it makes noises on flat pristine roads I can only imagine what it would do up north.

IMO its a workmanship defect. Since some cars have no noises with the same parts then workmanship is the only reasonable answer. Must be a "monday" car. :)

Or a Friday afternoon car. Look, all of our cars have squeaks. Bring it in once, shame on you. Bring it in twice, shame on me. Bring it in 4x you might qualify as a patient at a psych ward. I'm not saying give it up ( why would you at this point, you've come so far?) but aren't you going to miss the squeaks when they're gone? They will you.

adric22 posted this insightful interview w/a Toyota mechanic that covered some fundamental problems w/the reimbursement system vs. the actual time it might take to diagnose and fix a problem.

Pretty scary story. According to the interviewee technicians don't get paid for diagnostic work [IMG] and get paid less for warranty work - that may lead to corner cutting practices such as leaving bolts and brackets off or cutting and splicing wires that are supposed to have water tight sheaths. [IMG]

    Could this be true?

As for the rattles and squeaks my 2009 Prius doesn't have any, but I can relate to OP's frustration. If the dealer still doesn't fix it this time maybe it's easier to get some adhesive backed felt or rubber bumpers from HomeDepot and fix it yourself. Just my 2 cents.

Great video. I didn't know they didn't get paid. That would explain why its never fixed correctly. Looks like they spend as little time as possible and not worry about quality.

There was a sign at a dealership I saw many years ago in Chicago. It said "Sales sells the first, Service sells the rest". I'm retired from AT&T. When I first started it was all about making the customer happy at any cost. Now its hit and run just like this guy. The system says you get 12 minutes to install a jack. If all you have to do is staple a wire on the baseboard you are OK. if you need to run the wire thru the attic and inside the wall you are screwed.

A company is only as good as they let them selves be. Toyota has a BIG PR problem to overcome. Maybe they need to spend a little more where the rubber meets the road. But that's between the dealers and Toyota.
