As someone who recently had tint removed, it isn't cheap at all. Removing tint on an entire vehicle can easily cost you $100. Also, each time you remove tint from a rear window w/defroster, you risk rendering that defroster inoperable.

It's best to tint the window with high quality film the first time around and not have to get it done a second time.

True, but there's no reason not to buy a car just because it already has the tint applied. There's a good chance the tint would last for the life of the car. If you simply don't like the particular tint that's on a car, then just find a different car to purchase.

Very unlikely it will last the life of the car. I doubt most of the "color-stable" dyed films will last more than 5- 7 years in hot climates. One of my friend's cars has Suntek HP and after a few years, I can already see a hint of purple.

Thanks for all the replies. I would be getting tint no matter what. I do live in FL and anything down here just needs to have it.

Now there is a shop here that can do the tint for me with a lifetime warranty for $100.

Should i wait to get a car without tint now since I might have to worry about getting the tint redone?

    thanks

You will not be getting decent tint for $100. I would look into FormulaOne Pinnacle Ceramic, which should be about $250 in FL's oversaturated tint market.

There's little to worry about such a thing. Just keep the car that you're planning on getting.

I've had a couple Southeast Toyota vehicles with the port tint. They do a great job, and given the number of cars they do I doubt you'll find other installers with as much experience. You can identify their port tint by additional stickers on the glass indicating the % reduction. Also, they caution you about care of the interior glass surfaces to avoid scratches--just like any other post manufactire tint application. I'd be happy to take another SET car with it, our Prius just did not have it on the list from SET. Our local dealer seems to have some with, some without, all models, no particular logic.

I got the SE Toyota port tint on mine --- just picked it up last Thursday. Carries only a 3 year warranty on the tint, but --- seems to be of good quality. It is called DigiFilm if I am not mistaken. I can definitely tell the tint difference vs non-tinted when I look at the end of the windows (when rolled down ) where there is a very small gap between where the tint and windows end.

I believe my car received the port "Gulf States" Toyota tint. I looked close for bubbles and scratches, but could not find any. They did a great job!

I also have the SE port tint on mine. It looks great but i have one question.

Is it possible to remove the little sticker that jim256 mentioned without damaging the tint? Any recommendations on what to use for the removal?

I don't have a suggestion on removal, but you might check first whether your state inspection laws possibly require some identification of the % reduction on applied tint.

So if the VLT limit is 35% combined for tint and window, and the window is already 70%, the lowest VLT for the tint that I can get would be 50% VLT?

Mine came with tint from Gulf States Toyota. Pretty good workmanship all around. Supposed to be 3M Color Stable Nano Carbon film. The front is 40% VLT, the back a little darker. The tint is of a smoked color and not reflective, looks very factory. I like it a lot. Personally I dislike limo tint, not only it is a safety hazard at night, also looks ghetto.
