Can someone tell me if the kenwoods are so slow, that they will not pick up the backup cam?

Damn you answered me before I asked.

So you do like the 6980?

Does anyone know the diff between the 6180 & 6980 & 9960? I know the 60 is last years model, but other than that?

You will need a steering wheel control unit/adapter. Go to the Kenwood site for difference between 6180 and 6980. With the DNX9960 HU , time from pressing power, shifting in reverse to backup cam on is 6 seconds.

6180 and 6980 seems to have similar features (NAV, BT, etc..). 6980 is eXcelon product line so it has better sound, pre-amp output and longer warranty. They both has 6.1" screen but real buttons and volume control.

9980 has 7" screen with the disc drive hidden behind the screen. It is their flagship model.

Does the backup cam work right away or do you have to wait until it boots to get a video feed?

I have an OEM backup camera so I don't know. From what I read 2010 or newer units do not require a full boot up. The camera works after 15 seconds.
