I just bought a 2011 Prius III July 2, I see a very versital main diplay...no nav installed...is there a diagnostic mode that can be entered into and thus display the wealth of infomation I know the CPU's are collecting. Water temp batttery voltage and much more I'm sure. I know of smartgauge and other "plug ins" but just what diagnostic informantion is right at our fingertips except for the correct keystroke entry. Also as a side note, cars built on an assembly line are all built the same, for efficiency, I wonder how many options lay burried in software just waiting to be activated....for me it would just be better use of the main display to give me more parameters about engine and battery use/state of charge.... If you have a navi screen, hold down the info button and then turn the lights on and off 3 times. It's the best you can get without a dedicated OBD reader.
For what purpose would Toyota develop UI for the parameters for assembly purposes? Surely they have internal tools they can plug into the OBD2 port, just like https://techinfo.toyota.com/techInfoPortal/appmanager/t3/ti?_pageLabel=ti_tis_ts_reprog&_nfpb=true. Only near the end, after assembly is complete do cars go into a testing area w/rollers (dyno). In most car plants I've seen there's also a functional test of everything (e.g. lights, horn, etc.) If you want to see lots of info, get something like a http://www.scangauge.com/. I have one. No, they aren't all built the same. They have different options/equipment which can vary significantly by region (e.g. US 2nd gen Priuses had the bladder fuel tank but IIRC, JDM 2nd gens didn't). Most of the automakers I've seen (GM, Nissan and Chrysler, at least) have a sheet of paper attached to the front of the car while going down the line that gives info about its options. At Toyota and Mazda plants, I've witnessed many different models going down the same line and even switching back/forth between RHD and LHD models.
