It looks to me like he just needed to take a break after four years and spend some time at his day job (a neurologist). He still posts in the main news section of gm-volt.com from time to time. He posted on June 20th that he had gone 5800 miles in his personal Volt and used 30 gallons of gas so far - see post 12 in below link.

There's a profound difference between taking a break and handing over everything to the same group who owns the big GM forum. He always wanted to minimize the blogging section and switch over thread posting instead. That would have been the perfect time to do so.

Whatever the case, he was always very respectful... allowing posts from people like me who clearly wanted to push GM in a different direction (wanting a scaled back, more affordable model). So, there's no reason to hold generalized feelings against him. He was quite open to comment. But going from daily posts to hearing only a brief something every few weeks is rather drastic.

The website was a propaganda machine though. Hype thrived from it, where opportunities to divert attention away from important issues were abundant. The 1776-mile drive was a perfect example.
