If you will do a search on here you will find multiple threads on this subject.

Toyota also has a TSB on this panel. Take it to your dealer and see if they will replace it under warranty.

This may sound stupid but is there really now a TSB on this? I was turned down by 3 dealers not more than 3 months ago regarding replacing this under warranty.....................

Yes, it was posted on here in another thread. I believe it stated that if the cover was distorted, or something to that effect, that they would replace it under warranty.

Warpage is a little different than breakage, LOL Maybe they are using this as butt covering.

The first time I had a look at those panels, and gave them a rap, I thought they were metal. I think the hinged door is breaking because the plastic is too hard and brittle. Maybe sometime Toyota will acknowledge this, but if they don't I'm sure it's due to:

I went to my local Toyota dealer yesterday for an oil change and brought the TSB with me. Asked them to check the panel and replace it if warped under warranty! They said the panel was ok, but changed it anyway. Now that's good customer relations! :)

Alright guys, I am trying to figure out if I am eligible for this TSB. There are different VIN's that are effected for each manufacturing plant. So, my question is: How can I tell which plant my vehicle came from?

Just take the printed TSB into the dealer and see if they replace it. I am going to do that tomorrow myself.

Our Prius is in that vin range. Purchased new May 2009.

So far there is 51,000 miles on it; is it still covered in the TSB
as it also reads, 36,000 miles or 3 years manufactures warranty.

    So am I covered?

I brought it in and left pretty steamed. They kept asking me why I didn't bring this up when I was in last week, even though I brought it in Early February after it broke off. I was in last week because they over torqued my oil filter housing so tight I couldn't get it off. It took a couple of different techs to finally get it off. When I went in February I was told the part was $263 and I was on the hook for it. I even showed them these emails but they didn't want to hear it.

They kept on making excuses trying to blame me for the problem. It was like talking to a 3 ring circus. All this did was get me worked up.

Perhaps Toyota corporate is the next step? I think I might try another dealership in the area. I feel like I still own my old VW.

    In the TSB, it states
"This repair is covered under the Toyota Comprehensive Warranty. This warranty is in effect for
36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle’s in-service date."
So, I don't believe you could be covered. However, if you find a nice dealer, maybe they'll make an exception and take care of it for you. It's luck of the draw, basically. Good luck!
I think the Toyota Tech's just call it "warpage" when it is actually BROKEN. They just don't want to use that type of wording. The hinge breaking and causing the door to fall down is what this TSB fixes. If you can, under your warranty, get this fixed. Apparently it's only a matter of time until it fails on you. I've had a total of 3-4 oil changes (cant remember exactly) and my door is still on! I plan to see if they'll put a new one on for me.

Did they finally perform the TSB? Or no? If I were you, I'd contact Toyota corporate and explain in detail everything that happened at that dealership. I've had to call them before, and it was one of the best customer relation experiences dealing with corporate. Very good people up top. Give them a shot and let us know how it turns out. They WILL get you worked out. :)

No they did not. They told me to make an appointment to come back so they could "examine it".

Do you have the contact info for the corporate division you contacted in the past?

An appoint to examine your car is absolutely ridiculous.
I started out by calling the "Customer Experience Center" at 1-800-331-4331. From there, I talked to someone, who escalated me to someone else, and it went from there till I was at the top. I hope they treat me as good as they treat you - because my experience was pretty darn good with them.
Here is a link with the hours and more contact information:
Best of luck. Let us know how it turns out.

Thanks lulzchicken. I appreciate the info. I made an appointment to go to another local dealership next week so hopefully they will handle it differently.
