CNN says Chevrolet Volt tech is "obsolete" compared to Toyota Prius Plug-in — Autoblog Green

The article above is a follow-up of a CNN article just a couple days earlier:

Prius Plug-in charges ahead of the Volt
Prius Plug-in is a better car than the Chevy Volt - Jun. 27, 2011
Wow ... kinda harsh. I DO have issues with Volt's cost, and as always, GM spin . . . but I still wish CNN could give the poor thing a chance. It's not like GM has any where near the experience Toyota has with vehicles weighing under 2 1/2 tons. Still, with so many other news sorces singing the Volt praises, it was just a matter of time that the critics would get their day.

I don't think I would be expecting to buy a Prius PHV If GM or Nissan did not produce the Volt and the Leaf. I don't think the Volt would exist if it were not for the continued improvement, popularity of the Prius. So, GM finally figured that they may as well get onboard with this hybrid thing before it is too late, or the entire company would have been obsolete in a few years.

The Volt will be fine with continuous improvements over the coming years. Although I suspect, the Prius is not going to be easy on the Volt, it maybe "payback time" for the Prius. And, if the Volt has low sale numbers, the last they need is bad press because people rely on what they tell them on TV.

If you ask me, the demise of the volt will come at the hands of the crooked GM dealers not passing on the tax incentives to the people. That was designed to help jumpstart production and poor GM apparently doesn't have the brains or the balls to step up and put a stop to it. There is still an internal self distructive disease that plagues this poor corporation.

In my opinion, the article says just about everything most of us have been saying all along.

And yet, there will still be people asking me - when I'm driving my PHV - why I hate America so much to buy an imported car.

Hell must be pretty close to freezing over...

Last I looked there is one plug in hybrid available for sale & it isn't a Prius. I may not think much of the car but at least GM is selling something Toyota isn't. This is the competition we all wanted. When Toyota gets in the game GM will be hard pressed to keep up.

Supercar influenced Toyota to design a Prius. I believe the Prius was as inexpensive as it was due to the new Insight. I believe the Leaf & the Volt pushed Toyota to offer a plug in earlier than they were planning.

Yep, I've heard some horror stories about Toyota dealers as well. Especially with the recent Prii shortages.

If there is any remote chance to screw the pooch government motors er i mean general motors always finds a way. Volt will fall not that i want that, because i aplaud the idea and concept, which is way outside the box for them.

Remember, the Volt has only been sold in a few selected markets. Deliveries to all 50 states won't commence until November of 2011, at the earliest. 2012 will be the real test for Volt sales.

not really... GM says they have capacity to build 1.4k Volts per month... they sell 500 per month.

Hill: Are you saying that all the experience that GM has gained in the last 100 plus years on cars like Cadillac, Chevrolet and Buick does not count? They are all under 2.5 tons!

The initial launch states are a good idea of what to expect. Launch states are chosen for a reason. That's where they expect the most demand.

    Yup.

GM heavily stressed that as reasoning for selecting those locations, demand would supposedly be so strong there wouldn't be inventory available for any other market.

The first 7 months have proven underwhelming... far from the game-changer Volt had been hyped to be.

That is what I was also thinking about the Prius Plug-in launch map, states where the Prius is more popular and is likely to do well initially.

The Volt did not do well in the initial states. IMO, one thing is becoming clearer, that GM apparently never really had a wait or order list for the Volt, maybe had people who expressed initial interests. So far they sold 2,745 Volts.
