Just drove a Gen III today

Me too Mike ... I was never in one before January of this year. But what I was talking about was the debate over the Prius' 'luxury car' status.

No debate...just the one you made in your head Revhigh...no one has called the Prius a luxury car except those who want to make the Prius into something that it is not. Show me ONE post where anyone of us (who defended the Prius G3) has called the Prius a LUXURY vehicle. If one cannot, then it may be a good idea to keep one's mouth close. Fair deal?

REALLY?! In my neck of the woods, no one gives a damn I drive a Prius. Only people making funny comments are my friends. But, they are my friends, that's what they do. Actually, this one time, one dude in some luxury car was eye humping my car and gave it a thumbs up. :rockon:

 

Even in Texas where big trucks roam the highways, i don't have any issue driving my Prius. Hell, even my friends are envious because of the mileage that i get!

Maybe it is the driver behind the wheel that gets disrespected, and not the Prius???

I didn't know who that was, so I Googled. I agree, he is excessively attractive!

 

When I step into a Gen II, I feel a bit lost. So I don't think Mike will know the nuances perfectly of a Gen III until he has more than a few sessions in it.

I use the HSI Display almost exclusively. It's different (easier?) than relying on the arrows display.

I think a Gen II has more of a go-kart sound, as the engine hums at a higher RPM. I only get that same noise when I'm punching my Gen III beyond the power band to merge into traffic on a short onramp. Then the Gen III is revving at high RPMs and it's a bit buzzy to the point of being disconcerting.

I think the Gen II interior is pretty nice, probably nicer than a Gen III.

In a Gen II, do you have an instantaneous MPG bar graph? I find the numeric display is very precise, but you have to watch it more carefully than a bar that goes up and down.

It's interesting that two of the most hotly debated forum topics in the last few days have been about:
Prius---the Performance car!

and....

Prius---The Luxury car.

You just can't make this stuff up!
The G2 and G3's are pretty good at what they do. I don't mean to diss G1's, I just don't have any time in type. I don't think that Luxury and Performance are things that folks aught to be getting into barroom brawls over....with PRIUSES.
It's like two six-year-olds arguing over which one has the best football bat.
