Hey guys - just wanted to let you know that if you use an iPhone to connect to your Prius stereo system via Bluetooth - there are some new features coming later in the year.

I'm an Apple developer and after the keynote speech from Apple on Monday I updated my iPhone to the new beta version of iOS 5.

Just went for a drive in my car and noticed completely by accident the Prius Bluetooth Audio screen had changed (see attached pic). You now get full Track / Album / Artist info displayed instead of that silly MP3 player graphic.

This is in addition to the changes that were introduced in iOS 4 which allowed you to use the buttons on the steering wheel to move up or down a track.

All this time the Prius was capable - just held back by the iPhone software! Who knew eh?

Very cool!! However, for me, USB connection is the best.

Thanks, I'll give this a try after I update to iOS 5. I prefer the USB connection for its wider frequency response, particularly at low frequencies.

I can only imagine the mess iOS5 would make of my 3G phone...LOL. Will iOS5 beat up the iPhone4, like it did the 3G?

Pretty cool indeed, wonder if it will be the same for the aftermarket navs? I guess we will find out soon enough! I still remember the excitement when Apple finally enabled AVRCP within A2DP so you could actually change tracks via bluetooth if the device supported it.

Awesome! Anybody know if the song/artist displays with Pandora too? (I'm not sure if that's even possible, but it would be great.)

I'm no BT protocol expert (not even close) but I'd imagine they extended support of AVRCP (Bluetooth profile - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia).

From the bottom of Apple - iOS 5 - See new features included in iOS 5., it looks like it won't be available for the 3G. Yeah, I recall that performance mess and never upgraded my 3G to iOS 4 before selling it.

I now use an iPhone 4, so we'll see...

I don't have a NAV system, just bluetooth on my 2010 Prius and I've been looking for a mod that lets me play tunes from my iphone 4. Once I've paired the bluetooth, Car Media takes over the audio on the iphone automatically but doesn't let me play songs off the ipod but just the other day I was using the Voice memo app and it played through Car Media so I know there has got to be a hack that will let me play my ipod songs on my iphone 4 through the car speakers. Anybody

Maybe its time for me to switch from a Droid. Here is hoping that Ice Cream will update the Bluez stack on Android.

I guess I will be install my Ipad as the new Nav system lol.

What I meant was that Apple extended what they decided to support.

Any updates here Peteruno? I am in the same situation and I cannot believe that this is not possible. Every single crappy bluetooth-enabled stereo you can buy over counter is open for streaming via BT.

If it's only to get people to buy with the sat-feature - there has to be a hack.

Finally! The Gen 6 Toyota nav supports AVCRP 1.3 and I was surprised that Apple didn't initially support it (just basic BT Audio Streaming then came the ability to change tracks with 4.x).

Now we can make full use of the BT function in the Prius!

Before I rush out and buy an iPod Touch (to get more value out of my GenIII's nav system), can anyone tell me if the sound quality via bluetooth is up to snuff vs. a cabled connection to it?

To me, it sounds great. And the convenience of not plugging-in and unplugging each time is a great feature. And the controls (track forward and back) on the steering wheel work. It pauses when you turn the car off and starts back up when you start it up. The iPod rarely leaves my pocket.

Being the thoroughly cheap individual that I am, I let my developer account expire to save the hundred bucks.
