No, I believe frodoz737 is using the OEM Toyota part along with the Kenwood insert that came with the unit. I like how the installed unit look so I may go the same route and will eliminate Metra 95-8202 I got. Will see once I take the original radio off so I can screw the original brackets to 9980HD.

Correct, the Toyota Trim #55406-47080 with Kenwood supplied filler. The factory brackets worked great, although the holes were stretched just enough to provide for final desired fit.

    Hey guys,
Awesome thread! I'm so getting the Kenwood 9980HD!

Here are some questions I hope you can answer:

    1) Is the 9980HD the latest that is out there? is this the HD revision of a 9980?

    2) I watched a few videos of this unit and it looks like there is a little lag time on boot up and even the touch response when scrolling, does this bother you?

    3) I want my install to be as clean OEM looking as possible so what's the difference between the Toyota Trim #55406-47080 VS the 55405-47080 ?

    4) I already put in an order for the PAC Tato interface (I have the Prius III w/JBL) to interface the HU with the JBL amp, this should work with the 9980HD correct?

    5) About the PAC SWI-JACK, is it pretty easy to hook up? Is there a way I can find out if I have the latest that has instant response with the steering controls? Does the hookup include the voice command button and hang up and pickup buttons?

    6) In regards to the backup camera, can any of you recommend something that is as OEM as possible, I don't want to go cheap, I heard the 09 Camry is a good one, can I purchase the one that came with the prius OEM navigation? Anyone have a part # or links? I checked parts.com with no luck.

    7) Anything else I need to successfully install a 9980HD into a Prius 3 W/JBL no-nav trim?

You guys are awesome, aftermarket navs FTW!

Hey, what is the name of the site that you found this bargain?? Some one broke in my car and stole my Dnx9140 so now I'm looking to buy the DNX9980.

    Thanks!

Got it from cartoys.com, but to get this price I had to call and ask them for additional discount. It was back in Apr. 2011.

So, are you buying one of these while it's this "cheap"?

Bought mine last night! I already have a Scosche (sp?) surround plate thing from when I was buying the top model right before I accidentally read that the 9980HD was coming out (stopped that previous purchase right away and waited to make sure people were liking the new model). I also have one of the steering wheel button interface things that makes your factory buttons still work (can't think of the name of that item off the top of my head, but it was discussed previously on here). SO, what other things will I have to get for this stereo headunit (usb/audio/microphone/bluetooth cables, etc.)?

And, if I already have an audio input button under the center armrest (factory), is there a way to keep its functionality? or is it useless after I install the new Kenwood?

Scosche TA2103B comes with the Aux harness (6096B). You plug the RCA (white/red) into the back of your head unit (input).

That should route the factory AUX input into the head unit.

My knowledge of the Prius III Sound System pretty much stopped when I determined it was not for me, but seem to remember reading of issues using Toyota's AUX port. The DNX9980HD uses 3 USB's and 2 - 3.5 RCA's for AUX in. 2 USB's are for Apple stuff and 1 for SW updates or other devices. Suggest using USB Panel-Mount Type A Cable -- DataPro and 2 generics 3.5's, and using the KCA-iP302 adapter to fully utilize all your options. You can surface mount these in the console, under the bridge, in the glovebox or where ever you like

Have my 9960 this way, although it only has 2 USB's and I used the KCA-iP301. The 302 was not available when my install was done.

However you do things, good luck and enjoy your new system.
