I switched to power mode only and fuel mileage went from 50.1 avg.to 55.3 avg. per tank.500 miles on 9 gallons. Not to shabby
Yeah, others have said they find an increase in mpg driving in PWR mode... I think driving style makes a huge difference in which mode works best for some and not for others.
Did you rule out warmer weather and summer fuel blend? I agree with Paradox but I often wonder about the methods people use to rule out any other factors besides the mode the car is in.
The time it takes to reach highway speed would be based on your throttle input, not the driving mode. If you feel Eco Mode is taking long then simply press the pedal down further and you'll go faster. The different modes mainly change the amount of throttle input needed to achieve a desired acceleration rate (throttle or TPS mapping). The power is the same whether you are at 60% throttle in Eco Mode vs. 40% throttle in Power Mode.
Or 50% in normal mode... At full throttle, the car will comply and give everythig it has no matter what mode you are in.
Aye, something like that. I was just throwing numbers out there to emphasis the point. I can't remember what the exact numbers are.
For the first year and half I used eco mode only...for the last 4 months though I have been using normal and I am conviced that my fuel economy has improved. I think that there is more going of than simply remapping the throttle response..I believe that the battery traction drive is being more agressively implemented...I can easily cruise in stealth mode at 60 - 70 kmph where in eco mode it was very difficult to maintain these speeds on battery only.
I didnt find any evidence of other than throttle position mapping and A/C operation differences in the Prius literature/manuals.
I was running late for my friend's birthday party and I put my Prius on power mode. my gas mpg went from 51mpg to 54mpg. A/C on and everything. Drivin at 70-80mph on highway. Doing the norm speed on the back road due to traffic. I actually see less mpg during Eco mode also. Only other explanation I have is that since the Prius gains momentum faster at power mode, allowing more time to coast/glide/stealth, yada yada. Either ways,
I like the power mode also, its the prius version of a turbocharger, lol! My wife beat me in the prius spanked my s10 4cyl.. No way to catch up,lol. That power mode makes a difference.
